In the olden days of yore this would be sorted by one side just steamrolling the other. Taking the land and saying "fuck it" this is ours now.

I don't advocate for that at all and in a civilised world there needs to be a two state solution but neither side wants that so here we are.
In the olden days of yore a two state solution involving any kind of hard border or wall would also just lead to bad things too.

See: The Troubles, Korea, Vietnam, Berlin, etc.

Not saying I don't agree, but that a two state solution needs to be more than just a separation of land.

Yeah exactly. I don't disagree at all. One side would just eliminate the other back then.

I'd hope a two state solution with flare-ups would still better than what we have now and definitely better than the complete genocide of any one side but I just think both sides have people who don't want that to happen and are determined not to let it happen.

There is no step closer no matter what you do. Israel could give half their land to Palestine right now and the result is they would want everything. Same goes for the other way around. At its core this is a religious war about a holy land between two opposing factions, with neither wanting the other to exist. There will never be a solution to this conflict until both sides stop being what they are, and thats not happening.

This is just one anecdotal observation, but it does highlight how this conflict goes well beyond just Hamas and the Israeli government. This is a mother who has never been to Israel or Palestine whose son is fighting for Hezbollah:
https://www.bbc.com/news/live/world-middle-east-67096916
Azab Mousa, 45, said she was proud of her son, 22-year-old Hamza, and that she had encouraged him to go ahead with the attack. He told me what he was going to do... I stood by his side and made sure he wasnt going to give up, she said.

If I had 10 sons, Id send them all to do the same, because we need to reclaim our land.

The family arrived in Lebanon from Syria in 2011, after the start of the civil war there, and have never been to the place they call Palestine.

Why do the other muslim nations refuse to take in Palestinian refugees? I get the sense that those countries see Palestinians as useful vermin and nothing more

The idea of Palestinian state is more important than the welfare of the people. I thought that was clear. Besides - who wants open their border and run the risk of letting terrorists in?

I wouldn't expect Hamas terrorists to attack Egypt or Iran or whatever. Why would they?

Lots of fears of if something similar happens like in Lebanon where refugees ended up becoming the majority and take over the country.
Countries like Egypt and Jordan aren't taking that chance. And Turkey has always been known to refuse refugees like what happened with Syrians trying to flee ISIS.

Because predictably the international community just wipes their hands at that point and Egypt is just standing there with 2.4 million starving people.

You answered you own question. I cant remember if I brought this up here, but its worth repeating. After much of the world, lead by the US liberated Kuwait from Iraq, they immediately deported 100,000 Palestinians.

Yep. But that ethnic cleansing was okay, for reasons.

Why should any country be forced to take refugees? The Palestinians should be in Palestine.

Been busy but a few updates, most of them posted here. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/israel-gaza-live-updates-iran-s-mission-to-un-warns-of-far-reaching-consequences

Among other things Iran's Mission to UN warns of 'far-reaching consequences', and Hamas is not letting people evacuate':

It seems Biden has decided there is no more mercy left for such monsters.

On the other hand, Biden noted that "there needs to be a Palestinian authority, a path to a Palestinian state," emphasizing that he thinks Israel understands that a "significant portion of Palestine people do not share the views of Hamas and Hezbollah."

it's so hard to just quote those two more lines
