I received an email on 9/30 stating several mailboxes were broken into and mine was of them. The email went onto say they were working with the postal office and police, and affected tenants mail would be held at the front desk until this was resolved.

What annoyed me was that the door leading to the mailroom does not automatically close resulting in it almost always being left open. This means literally anyone can walk into it, which is exactly what happened. Luckily I dont think I had any mail stolen from me that day, but annoying nonetheless.

A week or so goes by and I figured everything had to be fixed by then. I went to the mail room and not only was the door open as usual, but my and others mailboxes were still broken. I walked to the front office and asked what was going on, and they told me the post office was responsible for fixing the mailboxes and my mail was at the post office. This infuriated me because the email said the front desk would have it, and there has been zero communication on this since 9/30.

I then sent an email to the property manager asking why the door hadnt been upgraded since the incident and why the mailboxes hadnt been repaired yet. He responded saying they werent legally allowed to touch the mailboxes as theyre the post offices property, and that they would address the door situation soon.

A few days later I went to the post office to get my mail. To my surprise, they said they didnt have any. They said the apartment complex should be storing it. They also told me the apartment complex was responsible for fixing the mailboxes, not the post office. So I relayed this info to the property manager and was told they were doing everything they could to fix then issue. They also didnt have my mail.

What are my options here? I need my mail, Lord knows what bills in late on and Im missing important purchases (snowboard pass, replacement credit card, etc.).

In the short term, try signing up for USPS's Informed Delivery and maybe submit a mail hold. Informed Delivery will email you photos of any mail you should receive and the mail hold will keep any mail at the post office until your box gets fixed.

Maybe try researching for a local tenant board/advocacy group/rights committee or code enforcement office to see what your options might be to force your landlord to take action.

Here's an example from San Francisco's Housing Rights Committee that might give you some ideas on how to take action: https://hrcsf.org/know-your-rights-as-a-tenant-in-sf/habitability-repair-issues/

informed delivery is the greatest thing, definitely second that.

Also I hate it when I receive physical bills in the mail. I feel like I've told my power company I want online only at least 10x over the past year and they still insist on cutting down trees.
