BTRFS is faster and provides more features(subvolumes are nice) than NTFS

Updates are faster and include all installed apps. No need to download and run install wizards just for small updates for things like qbittorrent/notepad/media players

Much better UI consistency and customization. Windows just keeps taking away customization options and forcing you into their way of doing things while looking uglier and uglier

Typing on the desktop brings up search without having to press the windows key

No telemetry
No need for antivirus
No ads
No bloat
No licensing or being forced to use a Microsoft account just to keep Windows going after a hardware change

The only thing I miss is Crystal Disk Info Shizuku Edition...

I have never figured out a use case for btrfs where I had the necessary tools to manage it or confidence in the filesystem's stability.

Proton runs almost anything worth playing that doesn't already run in a virtual environment

Basically the only thing you can't play are online games with anti cheat software

Nice. I would like to be able to commit to WKL keyboards without having to map the Windows key to another key. They just look so much better than keyboards with a Windows key.

why not just replace the keycap with something you have rather than just get one less button for no reason?

Well, yes... but no... security through obscurity is not the security you think it is.

Still exercise some common sense behavior with what you're out there visiting and downloading.

I could never get games to work properly on Linux, even something like Runescape was a pain in the ass to set up. This was a few years ago when it was supposedly super easy to set up for gaming...

Game support still has progress to make but its so much better than it was a decade ago, and in another decade it will be better still.

Is there any downside to just going dual boot? Best of both worlds.

Im not denying the progress made, and Im awaiting a day I legitimately can switch to Linux. I just honestly think it wont ever happen. Ill be glad to be proven wrong but I dont think I will be.

Downside to dual boot is two OSes to maintain. Too much effort for a lazybones like me. Have to reboot to switch OS as well

It's only kernel-level anti-cheats that are a problem, which is only used by games not worth playing (like shitty F2P mmos)

Windows has a really robust VM environment. If you really want you can create a Linux VM and tinker with it so that it has access to ring 0 for gaming and you can seamlessly switch between two OS at that point without having to reboot anything.

You're gonna want to go heavy on the RAM though to make sure there's a minimum 16 GB available to both the VM and the Host.

I use VMware workstation all the time. I have a Linux based Plex server. I just dont use it as my daily driver so I dont actually get much hands on. Sure I can install it in a VM but that doesnt really immerse me and therefore I dont really learn it as much as Id want to. I kinda just need to remove windows, install Linux and use only it, thats just me though.

Because it's retro and looks cool. It's big in the custom mechanical keyboard scene.

I usually just put the Windows key on the second layer so it's still easily pressed, but just doesn't have a dedicated button. Also nice to not have to worry about pressing it during games.

OpenSUSE has the best default installation and mascot

KDE Plasma as it looks the nicest and has good multi-screen management/scaling

SUSE splits packages so -devel and -debug parts are optional while Arch doesn't. These are completely unnecessary for the majority of users, so SUSE ends up being less bloated with smaller update+install sizes

Updating Arch is incredibly tedious, requiring manual intervention at times. SUSE's snapshot structure with OpenQA and no manual intervention needed is absolutely superior.

Gaming is almost entirely the reason why it didn't have a huge adoption rates. So long as devs use Microsoft libraries that isn't going to change for some of them.
