We were getting ready to do it, it was different from the first, but it had a continuation of many of the things that I was trying to do. Then what happened isI mean, this is why lifes crazy, right?they had to give a deposit for the stages at 5pm or we would lose the stages in Toronto for many months. So, I said, Don't forget we're gonna lose the stages, and five o'clock came and went, and we lost the stages. They said, Well, we can shoot it in China. And I go, What do you mean we? [Laughs] Ive gotta go do Shape of Water.

But we did get Atlantic Rim

Dumb studios. I think Pacific Rim 2 could have been better, but they turned it into Power Rangers for whatever reason.

Execs and dumbfuck higher ups kept screwing him over so he stopped being patient with projects getting put on hold. I don't blame him because I think Hellboy 3 was officially dead around that time and even earlier Silent Hills in 2014.

Pacific Rim 1 also started because his At the Mountains of Madness adaptation was canned. He was only going to produce and co-write Pacific Rim, and woule direct it if they passed on the Lovecraft movie, which it was.
