I think it mainly just came from e.g. Catholic Church scandals, because regular homosexuality was ostracized outside of major cities, so if you're from a rural town who are the homosexuals you hear about? Well, in those days it was mostly people molesting children.

Which is obviously a dumb conclusion to draw (as it has more to do with people in power taking advantage of children who are available to them) but that's the source.

It's hard to understand bigotry because it almost always comes from irrational thoughts and feelings

i think that i am, unfortunately, neither special nor unique, and that being sexually abused as a child by a same-sex person is far more prevalent than most people want to admit. and that the resulting mental anguish and trauma from such abuse can undoubtedly foster an almost irrational bigotry towards the gender, orientation, etc. of those that abused you. i like you. youre a good poster. but, and no disrespect and i aint looking to argue, your posts occasionally teeter pretty close to borderline misandry, which i can only assume stems from past trauma youve experienced. which kind of leads me to my other point, in that it is easy to understand feelings like that if youve been in similar situations yourself. and tbh i dont fault you for it a bit. i hate "men" myself.

everyone deals with their trauma in their own way. me personally, even 20 years after the fact, I still hate sex. the self loathing and shame ive felt for the abuse i received has colored literally every aspect of interpersonal relationships ive had in memory. when i was young, i was incredibly promiscuous. not because i wanted to have sex, but because it had been ingrained to me at that point that it was the method through which i could achieve that interpersonal intimacy i craved. id slept with over 20 people (men, women, trans ppl) before i even graduated high school. ive had anonymous sex, one night stands, group sex, you name it. it was how i felt valued as a person, and it was all in the pursuit of having someone, anyone, like me.

and as an adult, i look back on my experiences in a strange and contradictory state of shame, guilt, self-loathing, longing, fondness, and nostalgia.

and like i said, i think im neither special nor unique. it took a lot of personal growth to understand both my gender identity and sexual orientation, without shame or indignation towards the things that pointed me that way. and tbqh i think theres a great number of people out there similarly suffering and unfairly maligned.

Uncounterable arguments, in three easy steps:
Step 1: Pick an ostracized group nobody likes.
Step 2: Somehow associate someone you don't like, with that group from step 1.
Step 3: Repeat as needed.

Most of them can't directly say that they want all gay people executed, so they support killing pedophiles and calling gay people pedophiles, and hope people are stupid enough to not connect the dots.

The prevalence of sexual assault against a child by a member of the same sex does not, and should not, inform a belief that a large portion of homosexual individuals are pedophiles or that a large portion of pedophiles are homosexual.

Even if one may align that way from personal trauma the vast majority of the legs of such a narrative is put forth by those who only want an excuse to demonize an out group by equating the two.

People aren't justified in hating black or Hispanic people if one of them physically or sexually assaults them, and they aren't justified to hate all LGBTQ people for the same reasons. No trauma justifies bigotry.

In a lot of eastern European languages (as someone who speaks one and knows a bit of others) the term for homosexual is "peder" or something similar to it, drawing a line directly between homosexuality and pedophila. So it seems the association has gone on for a while and probably has helped demonize gay people for a very long time

maybe because pedophiles don't seem to care about the gender of the kids so some people think they are part of the LGBT group,when for pedos it has nothing to do with sexual orientation

but tbqh im not going to fault a rape victim (myself included) for holding irrational hatred towards ppl they believe victimized them

but that i'm not going to tell someone that's been abused in such manners that holding such feelings is "wrong" b/c i know from personal experience that it is in direct interference with the necessary healing to combat such feelings.

i agree, but i think that (from experience) being told that your feelings are wrong only prolongs the hatred and impedes the healing tbh

ppl should approach such subjects with the understanding that we're all flawed, stupid, imperfect beings that might not have the empathy or understanding in the moment to empathize with those of the "tribe " we believe wronged us
