I heard that it had a translation patch, but that it was mostly machine translated, so I was skeptical. I also wanted to play it on a Steam Deck but was skeptical that it could handle PS2 emulation. Finally, I was skeptical that the game would live up to its hype.

Turns out all of those worries were unfounded. The translation was really good, it runs great on a Steam Deck, and it's a really great game! Some of the dungeons get kinda crappy later on, and the story could've been better, but combat is really fun and polished and I really liked most of the main characters. It might be my second favorite Tales game now, with Symphonia only being first due to nostalgia really.

Man I got real excited for a second thinking this was referring to ToD2 coming out.

Still, good to hear this is a good version.

Man this would have been my holy grail translation patch like 15 years ago, I might have to check it out

It's a goddamn shame the 2D style of Tales games just died off

I only played the original a couple years ago but I was very underwhelmed by the plot when it came to the second half. bottom tier uninteresting antagonist force.

2 is much more of an interesting package

What did you use to get it working a Steam Deck? Is it still RetroArch?

I've been tinkering with PS2 emulators recently, and they've definitely come a long way. Which is great since my PS2 can't recognize discs anymore but the emulators can still run off the discs themselves. So I still have a way to use them and not have to worry about memory card space, which is a huge plus.

But it's good to see a working translated version of ToD: Director's Cut. Hope the same treatment can be done with Destiny 2 and Rebirth.

Can't believe Rebirth's fan translation is actually looking like it's going to make it. With that I believe the only game not available in English in some form will be Destiny 2? (Minus Phantasia X and Hearts DS if you count those I suppose.)
