The Beatles and other bands of the type in the 1960s did covers of R&B, soul and and blues songs, many garage bands of the same era solely played ocver songs, and big name country artists of the past like George Jones, Buck Owens, Loretta Lynn, Waylon Jennings etc featured covers each other's songs on their albums.
