That's the amount Sutter Health (a hospital) is paying to MRI techs in Sacramento, California.

I am on the verge of starting MRI school and I'm definitely keeping an eye on that hospital for the future.

Anyway, just want to know if that kind of pay would be comfortable for you guys?

Damn, that's not bad at all. Been to Sutter a few times in the Sac area - haven't had a problem with how they run their facilities.

For sure. Healthcare generally pays really well.

I would say the MRI field (which is an offshoot of X-Ray) is one of the more chill healthcare jobs.

I shadowed both X-Ray techs and MRI techs prior to enrolling in MRI school. Both groups told me to go straight to MRI. Pays better, is less hard on the body (perfect ratio of sitting and standing), and is just less stressful in general.

This is entirely geographically dependent. I live in a small town in the Midwest where cost of living is CHEAP. Honestly where I live you can literally live ok on minimum wage. I know families with kids living well on 45K a year. Anything above 50K is considered good. Houses that would be a million plus in many other places are like 300K here.

I make about 75K a year and I have zero debt, completely paid off my mortgage and own my house, completely paid off any vehicles I have, no debt. I save the majority of my check and just stockpile money and will retire early and live comfortably.

My dad makes about 110K a year here and has no debt and tons of extra stuff. He has a second home (cabin on the river for fishing trips) boat, motorcycles, ATV, Jet ski, snowmobiles, multiple vehicles, all kinds of stuff. Dude is swimming in money and has more than he knows what to do with.

A good friend of mine from high school was making 140K a year in Bakersfield California and practically was in poverty. She was struggling to put food on the table. She moved back here for a 35K job and is thriving.

I cant speak specifically for Sacramento. I only know 1 person who lives there and we dont really discuss money. But my point stands about geography. A salary in NYC is not going to be comparable to someplace in the South or Midwest.

The low end is 50% more than my hourly rate, but seeing as this is in Sacramento, the higher cost of living will nearly wipe out the increase in pay compared to where I am currently.

140K is "poverty" in Bakersfield? I strongly doubt that.

Admittedly poverty was an exaggeration. She just never felt like she was getting ahead and gaining a lot of ground. Just kind of felt like she was treading water when it came to finances. I cant remember where she worked but I know she had a really long commute. She lived in Bakersfield because the housing was more affordable because she felt like she couldnt afford to live where she wanted.

My main point is Geography matters. Salary/cost of living is different whether its Hawaii, NY, or some Midwestern state. Even within my tiny state cost of living where Im at is vastly different than the capital city. Salaries can be quite a bit more there because it cost quite a bit more to live there.

I look at it like this, if people can live and work in LA whether it's fast food or business, then anyone can make it anywhere. LA is expensive as shit, yet there's millions of people living and working within 8 miles or 30 minutes from work.

I live in Sacramento. For the area, it's pretty decent pay - more than I make - and definitely livable.

It's ~$123-153k/year. Pretty sure I can make that work virtually anywhere, with a higher standard than I'm at now.

Bro come on. Midwest is best. I bought a 3 br / 2 ba house built in 2018 for 340k. That is easily double in even the more modest suburban areas (depending on region). If you have specific gripes, I'd love to hear them.
