Hell no, that remake was ass. Every single element was weaker. Sound design was done by a temp for sure. The gunplay change over to the Call of Duty white hashmarks is wack. The boss designs are worsened accross the board.

It was phoned in. The original was a labor of love, and you don't top that simply by working in an updated engine.

Being 18 is not what determines being old enough to have children.

yeah only RE1-3 actually needed to be remade. RE4 still holds up

I completely disagree. The sound design was excellent, weapons handle well and have good vareity. Immensely improved controls, removal of shitty ass crap garbage QTEs, superb level design.

It absolutely was not. The attention to detail was wild and you can feel the love and passion in every aspect of the game.... except Ada's VA but we don't talk about that.

Almost every single chapter/level etc of the game has cute time savers for replays like shooting the bell in the village or cheeky shooting of locks through windows.

The treasure system overhaul is a vast improvement, the side-quests are cute and add a lot of neat touches to the lore.

RE4make has some of the best level design and pacing since.... Well RE2make TBH.

CAPCOM have some immensely talented designers.

The original was a labor of love, and you don't top that simply by working in an updated engine.

Indeed you top that by making a superior product.

Well action they have everything from the OG (Except U3 and the OG 2nd Gigante fight) and a ton more, including a much better 2nd El Gigante Fight on Battlements and a vastly improved and more exciting minecart section

It sometimes bugs me when they the lines in the gameplay like that. DMC5 did the same thing, can't just play a level, always gotta have the player character explaining it as it happens. Like you're trying to play one playstyle and the character starts talking like he's in a serious mood that doesn't match what he's doing at all.

He sounds so dour and serious for most of these. He's saying similar lines to the original but he's just kinda grumbling them to himself.
Like he has a list of zingers to say with a really underwhelming delivery to enemies that don't care. Meanwhile the original is just an all-purpose weirdo who the bad guys almost enjoy interacting with.
The "Tell someone who gives a shit." before unceremoniously shooting Saddler one is kinda fun but that's about it.

I mean to each their own but "Random phone conversations you're locked into where people awkwardly say one liners at each other is better than having diegetic lines of dialogue at relevant points during actual gameplay" is an unusual opinon and one you're not going to find many sharing.

Feels onpar with someone claiming Kingdom Hearts 1 is better than Baldurs Gate 3 because you can't skip cutscenes in Kingdom Hearts 1.

I mean everyone's entitled to their opinion, but... that's a weird one.

Face it. if OG RE4 was released for the first time today (and had kickass graphics) it would be panned for its massive flaws. It was impressive for its time due to its advanced graphics, but QTEs, escort missions and dull corridors don't hold up. The pacing is all over the place and the level design is poor once you reach the castle.

I think they should put most of that in the cutscenes and let me skip them if I don't wanna watch them.
And then the gameplay could just leave you to your own devices, voice lines attached to attacks is fine.

Dead Rising 1 does it great. Frank participates in the story in the cutscenes and then goes berserk in the gameplay. DMC5 however, you play as crazy and outlandishly as you can and the canon Dante still chimes in to announce how weary and serious about saving the day he is.
