Looks like they have Mythical Zoan Fruits

People saying the WG were way too weak to keep up are eating a fat crow right now between this, IMU, Seraphim and the God Knights all being revealed this arc.

Egghead Arc has been nuts. Nearly every chapter has dropped bombshells, long awaited reveals/payoffs or unexpected/HUGE fights.

Basic Shonen.

Man, it would've been so cool for them to be just regular people instead of another group of fighters.

Is Kizaru going to become Zoro fodder if this is the new boss for Luffy?
If the WG was so strong, why wouldn't they just dismantle the yonko?

We have known for a while now that all the Gorosei and Imu had devil fruit powers, ever since Sabo told the story about how he escaped them. Which this makes Sabo's escape even more impressive...

Given Saturn's reaction to seeing Gear 5 Luffy, I like the theory that the Gorosei and Imu are immortal, and have been around since the Void Century 800 years ago. Also we don't really know how powerful the Gorosei are, clearly they keep the best devil fruits for themselves, but they could still just be around Admiral and Yonko level. Not sure I would like it if all the Gorosei, the Holy Knights, and Imu were all at some tier above Yonko, and could have crushed them at any time.

An even more interesting thought about the Gorosei is that they could have literal Demon(Devil fruits), the form he takes is a classic Yokai which is demon in Japanese culture. Plus the pentagram that he transformed and came through.

The holy knights will be the equivalent of the Tobi Roppo or Yonko Commanders I feel.

I doubt the Gorosei will be stronger then the Yonko let alone the Holy Knights. I doubt anyone but Figarland will even be Admiral/Yonko level.

It's a shonen. Of course there were going to be people stronger than Kaido for Luffy to fight. Plus we already knew these guys had powers based off what Sabo said about them.

There were already plenty of potential antagonists. The SHs hadn't faced anywhere close to the top of Marine power and Blackbeard is always there.

I doubt they all have devil fruits, i figure at least 1 doesnt, but I have no proof.

I'm glad I finally buckled down and caught up with the manga after years of putting it off. The most recent ~50 chapters or so have been insane. I never thought I'd see the day where the veil was lifted from the world government and we got to see what their "power levels" are. It feels surreal, but it's pretty awesome.

So like... is Blackbeard just being written out of the series? The dude was being set up as the main antagonist and now in the 0th hour here comes a whole new host of unbelievably powerful guys apparently so strong the entire world government caves to their every demand. The same WG that is apparently comfortable with putting a bounty on Blackbeard, so they're clearly not as afraid of him as they are of the gorosei.

It's a shame, because One Piece has always done such a good job of having the villains "level up" right alongside the heroes up until a point, and then I guess Oda got bored of Smoker, Teach, etc and decided to just replace them as a threat with some new, more powerful than everyone out of nowhere, villains.

I don't think Blackbeard is being written out. He's still got a major role to play. From what I recall, he has never been a character that gets shown very often in the first place.

Yeah my favorite parts of the manga were always the few in between chapters where we got to see the activities going on w/ all the other characters and happenings around the world before hunkering down for another two years on an island w/ the Straw Hats, and this whole Egg Head Island arc has been a great change of pace w/ constants cuts between all the other big events around the world

Blackbeard and his pirates have been featured very heavily throughout the arc w/ all the stuff they are doing, I think he will still be the ultimate bad. He is being set up as like the anti Luffy.

Hell no. It's been mentioned that his crew has been obtaining a bunch of extremely powerful fruits for themselves. And don't forget that Blackbeard has both his own fruit and Whitebeard's fruit which--as far as anybody knows--shouldn't be possible. For all we know, he's going to come along and steal fruits from these World Government authorities, too.

The fact that he can eat and use multiple fruits gives him perhaps the highest power ceiling in the series. I think we're going to come back to that discussion that "a devil fruit is strong, but haki is where true power lies" philosophy before the ending.

Lolwut? The Gorosei were established as THE leaders of the World Government since chapter 233 with IMU being introduced in 906 as the secret leader. And Blackbeard has been highly active this arc. He defeated the Heart Pirates, captured Pudding(who can read poneglyphs when her third eye opens) raided Amazon Lily, captured Koby and his crew defeated Garp. Also one of his ships is at Egghead though we don't know who is on it yet. Blackbeard basically went down a list of Straw Hat Allies/Friends, beefed with a bunch of them and came out on top each time.

Also Smoker has done shit since Punk Hazard him losing relevenance happened like a decade ago.

The world Government has always been the overarching antagonist. They propped up the Warlords Luffy fought from Alabasta all the way to Dressrosa. They killed Ace. They buried the truth of the Void Century. They are the main antagonist of Robin and the revolutonaries. Luffy declared War on them and punched a celestial dragon. Kizaru and the Pacifista are what broke the crew up pre TS. Saoboady + Ace's death are what convinced Luffy to have the crew train for 2 years. Etc.

Blackbeard the is the main antagonist as a singular person. He is the polar opposite of Luffy. But the WG has been setup since ~Alabasta as the main antagonistic force. Ever since the Ancient weapons and Void century were introduced. The first full arc of the Time Skip being Fishman Island which was about the Void Century and the World Government's racism and opression was not a coincidence.

The endgame has been setup for Blackbeard and WG as Luffy's final opponents for a long time. Its quite possible the final conflict will he a clusterfuck where its Blackbeard vs Straw Hats vs World Government. Possibly Cross Guild and Red Hair Pirates too depending on their status at the time

Yeah I honestly preferred if they were just a bunch of normal dudes that are incredibly witty and smart that got to where they were at. But honestly, at the same time, reading the chapter was pretty fucking hype. I don't know how One Piece does it but it keeps dragging me in and in with all these reveals.

The Gorosei have been a looming shadow as the ones truly behind the WG for most of the series. All we got recently was an expansion from them being the brains of the WG to something more.

And Blackbear is still relevant. He's been making moves throughout this arc.
