Anybody live there? Anybody visit?
It's my next vacation spot next year.
Just wondering what to expect.

The Big Island is one of the best places I've been to. One side is this weird sci fi volcanic landscape, the other a tropical rainforest, and in the middle you have a temperate zone that's like England or New Zealand.

Great beaches, volcano national park, and the nicest airport I've ever experienced (most of it is outdoors).

My wife has family on Hawaii. Lahaina, the place that recently burned down on Maui, was an absolute gorgeous beach town. Had one of her family members lose the house because of the fire. Wish it was still around. We always stayed there.

North shore Oahu is pretty nice. Honolulu is way too busy with Waikiki beach being too overcrowded. Other than Lahaina, the wife and my favorite is Kauai. Its much less busy with some really nice hiking trails. The only thing thats a bummer is finding a place to eat thats open later.

Beaches are beaches, so cant go wrong regardless, but my takeaway is that the big island is significantly nicer to visit than Oahu. Cant speak towards the other islands.

Granted, that impression was pre-wildfire.

I went to Maui last year. Beautiful place, everything is a bit pricey, and they have chickens rather than pigeons. I highly recommend checking out a national park or 2.

Would love to go back sometime.

I vacationed in Maui last year. Never been to the big island but Haleakala national park on Maui is great hiking. Im sure big island is just as good if not better but walking down into the crater on a day hike was an experience like no other. And then the rainforest in the other side.

im not into beaches so thats whatever for me but I enjoyed Lahaina while it was there.

I've only been to Oahu, Kawaii and Big Island. I liked Big Island the best. But it was 20 years ago that I was there. I have no idea what its like now

I was in Oahu last year, first time to Hawaii. It was awesome, great mix of city stuff to do, but we also rented a little smart car and went driving all around the island, with the north shore having some amazing beaches and food.

I lived in Pearl City,Oahu for 2 years. The best places imo are on the west end/north shore. More locals than tourists. Best place to spend time relaxing imo. Nobody is in a rush there. The closer to Honolulu the crazier it gets, also the more expensive too.

That's if you stay in Oahu, only island I've been to unfortunately. Always wanted to go to Kuai.
