I'm as left-leaning as anyone but some of the site's user have tissue-thick skin when it comes to.....fucking every issue. Some star quotes: #80: Playing in Japanese then, fuck that. Feels like erasure to pander to English speakers and mad disrespectful of the culture that the game is appropriating. It's no different to times when there's a "foreign sounding name" but media for whatever reason feels it's too foreign and so assigns a more palatable version. Absolute nonsense that shouldn't be entertained nowadays. #240: I hope there will be enough pushback that SE is forced to recant this and re-record all the lines with the correct pronunciation. Knowing the origin of the name and and mythology behind it, giving the character a Scottish accent, but still choosing to change the pronunciation to cop out to indifference and stubbornness is so disappointing and disrespectful. #325: As an Irish person I think this is a poor decision by Square Enix and is supremely regrettable, but ultimately I understand why this happened. What I am not OK with is the fucking gigantic number of people in this thread proudly holding up their own ignorance of other cultures and going "nyeh nyeh nyeh, I was right, Gaelic People Were Wrong" and actively making fun of people who are invested in the history and culture of a nation, especially when it comes to Gaelic, a language that was violently repressed in Scotland and Ireland by the English. Ye all should be fucking ashamed of yourselves posting the shit you are. #374: (A MOD) Given how the character presents themselves, through their accent among other things, some people will have issues with the stated pronunciation of the term put forward here. Especially considering some of the issues around the various forms of the gaelic language and English imperialism.
