Welcome to the 2023 edition of Most Evil Fictional Character, a single-elimination tournament to determine the most evil fictional character of all time!

Here's the bracket:

https://www.bracketmaker.com/tmenu.cfm?tid=477621&tclass=

And here's the discussion topic:

https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/8-gamefaqs-contests/80568652

And here are the rules:

-First and foremost, YOU MUST BOLD YOUR VOTE FOR IT TO COUNT. The reason for this is that these topics encourage a lot of discussion and debate, and it helps me to distinguish a vote from simple discussion if all votes are bolded. So, I state again, ALL VOTES MUST BE BOLDED FOR THEM TO COUNT. I reserve the right to be lenient in early topics if people just aren't getting it, but for the most part, IF YOUR VOTE ISN'T BOLDED, IT WON'T COUNT.

-You must vote for which of the two characters you honestly believe to be the more evil of the two. You can determine this via any method you like, use your own morals and judgement, read all the arguments made to determine your choice, or however you choose to make your pick, but you must only vote for the one you truly believe is the most evil. This isn't a death battle, or a popularity contest. You're voting ONLY for the most evil character out of the two choices presented.

-While on that subject, remember that because this isn't a death battle or a fighting tournament, do your absolute best to consider the two characters as if their power levels were equal (either the weaker character brought up to the level of the strongest, or vice versa, or both if you want to consider both possibilities). Therefore, just because, for example, one of the characters blew up a planet and the other one merely kicked a puppy, doesn't necessarily mean the planet killer is more evil than the puppy kicker. Consider the characters as if they have the exact same capabilities and what they might do in that scenario.

-You can make any arguments, debates, etc. you want in this topic. Discussion is STRONGLY encouraged, a fun debate about which of the two characters is most evil is exactly what these topics are for. Just don't make it personal, no insults or flaming, keep things civil even if you disagree. Also, no vote rallying, if you want to encourage people to vote for your character you need to at least make some semblance of an argument as to why, even if it's just "Character X did (really dastardly thing), I can't believe no one's voting for them!"

-Voting will continue for exactly 24 hours after the post is made. If there's a tie, there will be a new 24 hour topic. This will continue indefinitely until a winner is determined.

-YOU MUST BOLD YOUR VOTE FOR IT TO COUNT.

The following write-ups will contain untagged SPOILERS for No Country For Old Men and Hatred. Proceed at your own risk!

ANTON CHIGURH

Anton Chigurh is the primary antagonist of the film and novel No Country For Old Men.

Anton Chigurh is a violent psychopath who kills without compassion or remorse but always with deliberation. He is described as having his own twisted set of morals. Chigurh is devoid of conscience, remorse, and compassion. His signature weapon is a captive bolt stunner, which he uses to kill his victims and also as a tool to shoot out door locks. Throughout the novel and the film, Chigurh flips a coin to decide the fate of some of his victims. In 1980, Chigurh is hired to retrieve a satchel holding $2.4 million from the scene of a drug deal gone wrong in West Texas. He discovers that a local welder named Llewelyn Moss has taken it and left town. Chigurh ruthlessly tracks Moss down. Chigurh intercepts a phone call from Moss in Wells' hotel room and offers to spare Moss's wife if he agrees to give up the money. Moss refuses and vows to track down and kill Chigurh. Chigurh kills the man who hired him and the Mexicans as revenge for not trusting Chigurh to complete the job. Mexican hitmen eventually kill Moss at a motel in El Paso. Moss's widow returns home after her mother's funeral to find Chigurh inside waiting for her. After hearing her pleas for mercy, he asks her to bet her life on a coin toss. In the book, she calls heads; it comes up tails, and he shoots and kills her. In the film adaptation, she refuses to call the toss, saying, "the coin don't have no say. It's just you." The movie then cuts to a shot of Chigurh leaving the house and checking the soles of his boots for blood, implying that he has killed her. While he does not kill without purpose, his reasons are sometimes abstract and typically selfish (e.g., murdering someone for the sole intention of taking their vehicle). He sees himself as a hand of fate, an instrument that exacts what is supposed to happen upon those he sees accountable. He gives many of his victims a chance to survive by making deals, either personally or by flipping coins in making decisions. He is incredibly unsettled when one of his victims points out that the coin has no say in his killings, suggesting his means of avoiding responsibility and hiding pleasure in murder are a facade. Chigurh kills or tries to kill almost every person he meets in the film.

vs.

THE ANTAGONIST

The antagonist is the player character in the video game Hatred.

The Antagonist is a violently misanthropic sociopath who is defined by his utter disgust and contempt for all of humanity, wanting to murder everyone regardless of their race, gender, sexuality and age, believing human beings to be weak and undeserving of "a natural death". He shows little emotion throughout the game, apart from hatred, anger, and the enjoyment he takes in the murder of other people. He is a obvious sadist, comparing his killing spree to "feeling like the most intense drug". The Antagonist has very nihilistic feelings about life, stating his life "is just cold, bitter hatred", and also stating "no life is worth saving"; He is also shown to be both homicidal and suicidal, wanting to die violently and kill as many people as he possibly can before dying, and has absolutely no remorse, guilt, or empathy for his actions. His behavior and actions throughout the game show he is quite obviously criminally insane. Little is known about him beyond his seething hatred for humanity. After killing a drugged hostage in his basement, The Antagonist leaves home and begins to kill civilians at random. After his initial rampage, he enters a police station at One Police Plaza district to murder all remaining police officers before entering the sewers to brutally kill a team of S.W.A.T. officers. Having escaped a retaliating hipster by hijacking a train, he discovers that there is a nuclear power plant in New Jersey and begins to plan on destroying the facility. After slaughtering everyone in the train, he steals an armed S.W.A.T. van and massacres Triad gangsters and civilians in Chinatown. With the military in pursuit, he finds a politician named Jos Morales gathering the remaining population. He murders Morales and all the remaining civilians before raiding Fort Oconor to obtain C4 explosives. After overwhelming the military, he declares himself a "One Man Army" before leaving the fort. He storms the nuclear power plant, places C4 charges in the facility, and tries to coerce an engineer into overloading the reactor (which would erase the city from the earth). Frustrated in the engineer's reluctance, he murders the engineer and types in the code, 666, to overload the reactor. A group of soldiers arrive and he laughs maniacally as he is shot down. With his last bit of strength, he states that he wonders if his explosives will work, then activates the trigger that completely destroys New York City. After realizing the city is destroyed, he posthumously mutters "Well, they did.".

The Antagonist
Anton Chigurh kills for a purpose. Not Important just wants to kill, and causes a lot more damage in the process. Destroying cities kills orders of magnitude more people than Chigurh does.

Antagonist is a great nomination for this, wow. Talk about a person so completely devoid of morals. In his place, I don't think Chigurh does quite the level of damage. And in Chigurh's place, I don't think the Antagonist even offers a coin flip.

Finally, a competition in which this travesty of a character (and game) might succeed.

It was also fun for the B8 Hunger Games Simulator topics a few years back

the antagonist. anton at least seems to have some kind of moral code even if its pretty arbitrary at times. bad main character from bad game doesn't offer others a chance and is pretty happy to go out of his way for murder.

The Antagonist / Not Important

Anton operates more like he thinks thats how things should go rather than to be evil...I think there is also a bit in the novel where he has a freakout about his actions and how he approaches things

Antagonist is suicidal/stupid evil, but still pretty directly evil. He also goes bigger and harder with his shenanigans than Anton
