Surprised no topic. I was somewhat excited at the prospect of moving away from what Odyssey and Valhalla did. Going back to story focused and maybe tight gameplay if there's time (a first for everything right?)

It feels weird, I've seen very little advertising about this game until I got a pop-up ad for it just yesterday. Hope it ends up doing well because the bloated nature of the recent games have chased me away from trying them.

Yeah I sunk a lot of hours on Odyssey but I ultimately came away not feeling like I enjoyed it all that much, it was really just a timesink.

I'm still considering buying Valhalla, but at considerable discount. And with the new game coming out I'm thinking within a year or 2's time it'll definitely drop to very cheap.

Ubisoft claims its in the style of the old games and the videos Ive seen make it look thay way.

But I swear to god if this is another one of those RPG pieces of shit Im going to fly to Montreal and start punching Ubisoft developers.

Yeah I'm actually looking forward to it. I did not like Odyssey and the direction they were moving with the series. Going back to a smaller scale assassin focused entry is something I am very much interested in.

I like the bigger ones more. I get bored of running through the same city over and over. I don't mind bigger cities, but France sucked to navigate, London felt the same at every corner, so you routinely saw the same shit over and over, Italy was fun from what I recall, but I haven't played that in forever. Black Sails had a nice map, because it was different villages or islands and had a bunch of fun shit you could do, fight sharks, narwhals, whales, dig up treasure and stuff, fight epic ships. And that was what, 2012 or 2013? That seemed to be the template for the series several games later, as after Syndicate they went to a huge open world rather than a single big city. And honestly, after taking nearly a decade off the series, Origins blew my mind. I played it during the lockdown and had an absolute blast with it. Great DLC too, as the previous DLC was never really all that great. Got to go to new areas, unique settings, fun shit to do, various events to incur, like fighting elephants and shit. Was fun as hell. Especially if you didn't know about it first hand, like I did. I remember walking into a thing, a cutscene of a massive elephant walking out, and now here I was going 1 v 2 against huge elephants. Was a fucking blast.

So yea, taking a step back seems meh to me. Knowing that this was supposed to be a DLC for Valhalla is also something I can't look past either. Sure they could fluff it up a bit more, but a 20 hour DLC that was meant to be an addon for the prior game seems kind of silly to release as a full fledged game, the first in 3 years for the series. But that's also likely why Red is releasing a year later. This won't really have full support like Valhalla did, where they put in full support, updates, and free DLC's for over 2 years.

iirc, it's one of those games that were initially planned as DLC, but got to be too big, so it was released as its own title.

The games built since Origins may be miles wide but theyre an inch deep.

They suck.

Valhalla, at least when it comes to the world, isn't very interesting. I liked a lot of things they did with combat and gear but the leveling was oversaturated with dumb bonuses and the world was very empty and the sights to see there just weren't interesting

Britain at that time was mostly just mud huts and grassy hills I guess

Common sense says it may not taste good, but it'll make a turd.

Oh no, Britain? We're back there again? I loathed Syndicate perhaps even more than Unity it was just so boring. London was just so boring even the somewhat likable idea of Evie wasn't enough to make the overall experience just blah.

I liked Valhalla's world. Ireland in the DLC was my favorite.
I still feel like Valhalla would have been better as its own game following Eivor and the Vikings without being linked to the AC franchise.

Basim was awesome in Valhalla, so I've been looking forward to Mirage. And it'll be nice to return to the old games' style for a change. It's only gonna be $50, too, which is nice.
