I have an AMD Radeon HD 6800 in my pc but a bunch of games have been complaining at me that it's old and starting to not work very well. I have no idea what kind of graphics card to get because I'm not a PC person. What's something that's affordable and hopefully less than 100-150 bucks. It doesn't need to be top of the line, just better than the current one that's apparently so old it's no good anymore.

....$100?

A 1080 is the lowest I would go these days, but it costs more than that lol

Fair enough, I've never bought one before so if it costs more I guess I'll have to revise my estimate. What's the full name for a "1080"? AMD Radeon HD 1080?

If you want a recently released card in that budget you're stuck with low-profile, low-power ones. There are some older cards that are more powerful than your current one. You might want to get an NVIDIA card since for a while they were outpacing AMD/ATI.

The (NVIDIA) GeForce GTX 1070 costs around $140-150. The GTX 1080 costs around $200-270.

There's a few things I feel are being left out. He's running a 12+ year old video card and doesn't understand current GPU brands and models. He's clearly not the most computer literate individual.

-What games do you play? I feel anything even remotely modern that isn't a casual game, would have issues running on that card

-what's in the rest of the computer? Getting a new GPU isn't going to do much if it's being just as held back by a 12 year old CPU. Also if everything else in there is that old, the PSU might not even be good enough for a modern card

-on price. There's a sweet spot on price, and percentage increase/decrease on price doesn't mean that much of an increase decrease in performance. generally the sweet spot on Nvidia is the xx60 card, anything below that is not really worth considering as you're only saving a little bit of money while experiencing a massive drop in performance. As has been mentioned a 3060 12GB is probably your best bet. It will be an absolutely massive (1000%?) upgrade over the ancient card in your system. However I would recommend keeping the previous point in mind. If the whole system is 12+ years old, you might be better off replacing the entire thing.

-are you comfortable doing this upgrade yourself? GPU is one of the easier upgrades, but it still helps to have some basic knowledge on the subject, something your posts indicate you are lacking.
