A get well present, like a physical gift, would be a nice gesture. But that gift in no way should be so expensive that you need all the employees to donate $20 bucks for it.

I would say throw him a pizza party but that wont be on the diet anymore.

Straddles the line. On one hand, yeah, seems dubious to case the staff for cash for someone at the top of the company but it's also not like he asked to fall ill (unless he led a really unhealthy lifestyle and figured it would never catch up with him). If the gesture is as simple as "it's another human in suffering, we're just trying to be supportive," then it seems harmless.

Now if that guy is an asshole to the people who work under them and take for granted the hard work the boots on the ground contribute to the success they try to claim for themselves then they can rot for all I care. Someone like that wouldn't take the time to look into an employee going through the same thing with fewer resources on top of it:

Imagine the treatment you'd get from the CEO if the same happened to you. You'd get nothing. He likely doesn't know you exist and doesn't care. You'd be in much greater need than he is and wouldn't get a single penny to help you unless it came from your colleagues.

Yeah, that would definitely smooth things over for me and remove any doubt about what I'm contributing to then.

I mean even if the CEO would treat an employee well after a heart attack, it doesn't mean the employees should be expected to do the same in return. There is a major economic disparity between the two situations.

This is literally a "it's the thought that counts" situation. Employees should just get the man a card, maybe a flower arrangement.

Last year our top boss was renovating his kitchen so he couldn't cook any food so his brown nosing office assistant asked everyone to donate some money so he and his family could buy go eat out while his kitchen is getting fixed. Especially with it being handed in that reeks. Any interbusiness things like that should be completely anonymous to prevent concerns of retaliation for failing to give somebody that makes a lot more money a perk on the grunt dime.

Is he asking the whole company to do this or just some upper staff? While the CEO doesn't need more money, a pool collected for a get-well present is a simple gesture of general goodwill. However, if you can be asked for that contribution for the CEO, then everyone else should be the same if anyone else has a heart attack. You want to go gifts over cards, that's how it should roll for everyone.

This is awkward because the only times I ever contributed to something like this, where someone had a heart attack, was a staff accountant that worked under me. I paid for some flowers, a gift card, and some edible arrangements and said the whole office pitched in when it just me. I personally wouldn't know how to feel if someone were to have me do this for our CEO.

Go fund yourself!

Guarantee dude whos doing the collecting gonna take it all himself like Creed from The Office. Literally no one would do this for a CEO.
