Just the main game without DLC, and no S Ranks.

Coasted through the first two worlds, then I had to really strap in to finish the game

Wasn't very hard.
Had to stop and think about the clown and King Dice for a few attempts though.

I have been gaming for my whole life. I had a Pong and an Atari 2600. No one would confuse me with a skilled gamer, but I have played a LOT of games of all types.

Cuphead scares me to death. I love the art style (and watching the Netflix cartoon with my kids!), but I just know it is going to be too hard for me. Even back when my reflexes were good it would have been tough. I think there is no way I beat it now.

It is on my wishlist, but every time it goes on sale I hang my head and go for something else. But it looks so cool!

Still havent beat the last level

Took me like 6 hours or so, not that bad. Charge gun did all the heavy lifting

I had around 4 or 5 hours logged on to it when I beat it. It's definitely tough but more than doable.

Bee boss can bite it

certainly hard. but since it's the sort of game where you can try over and over in seconds I eventually beat it.

I'm decent at bullet hell-esque roguelikes like Enter the Gungeon, Isaac, or Hades; but I haven't beaten Cuphead. I'm sure I can with enough effort but I haven't tried to power through it yet, I *think* I got about 3/4 through the base game?

When it comes to hard games though I generally prefer roguelikes or soulslikes.

How hard would it be to get the platinum trophy/max achievement points in cuphead out of curiosity?

Every now and then I get in that mood to try to do one of those challenge type completions. Speed running through mega man 11, clearing hard corps uprising without dying way back when for that 200/200 on the xbox 360, all cyber shadow challenges etc. I was thinking about attempting the same with cuphead at some point.

I have many flaws as a human being. One of them is my gaming pride. I will not do easy mode. I have never played a game on anything but normal and above, and I wont.

I know it is stupid. I know it is silly. I know it will probably mean I wont try this great game. And there is nothing wrong with easy mode for anyone-it is good to have options and accessibility.

I just cant bring myself to do it, even though it is ridiculous.

I thought it was really tough to get the highest ranks per level.

Just beating the levels any rank was not too bad tho. Just took a few tries each for me and I didn't use optimum set ups most of the run. Iirc i didn't know you could do certain things which would make the game a bit easier until the later game lol

Didn't really have the "optimal" experience because I played Co-op with my friend, who is really good at platformers, and he did most of the heavy lifting. I would probably find it a challenge solo, but certainly beatable. I did manage to solo the Devil by myself when my friend made some really stupid mistakes early (and I didn't revive him).

I get that westernwolf what little pride I have left, I don't want to be playing story/easy mode in games. If I have to go down to that level then the game just isn't for me and that's fine. Much like Dark Souls, I just don't have the patience for that so it's just not for me. I don't need an easy mode shoved into it either as I wouldn't be playing it on that anyway.

I played the first world or two just goofing around in Cuphead with a friend of mine on normal but it was getting really hard and I am not good at memorizing patterns or all that shit so solid game in all likelihood and it tooks really good, but yeah never going back to it.

You can't beat the game on Easy though, right? IIRC it won't let you fight the Devil.

anyone that says Cuphead isn't hard... idk how u can say that

however, Cuphead is extremely fair. a lot of older games have bullshit mechanics: continues, lives, power-ups (in mario), rings, that can (and WERE) exploited in the final levels to make life impossible.

No power-ups in Bowser's castle (SMB1).
Continue back at 8-1 (SMB1).
No rings in this level (various Sonic).
Back to 6-1 (Ninja Gaiden).

and so on. Cuphead indulges in none of that, so with some practice you can beat it in like 40 hours.

Wally Warbles on expert is the toughest in the game imo

I never did manage to beat it. Got stuck on the giant robot boss. Maybe I'll go back to it at some point, I'm not sure.

Its difficult, but a fair difficulty. You can restart a boss fight anytime with no delay. No bullshit like Dark Soul's walk back to the boss.

If I recall, I thought it was pretty tough but not super hard. I only had major trouble with the clown boss and the final boss.

Did they change it? Way back before I ragequit the game when I couldn't beat the dragon boss, the game specifically told me that lowering the difficulty prevents progression past the first area.

I wanted to love the game, but the endearing animation, music, and artstyle are antithetical to it's arbitrarily high difficulty.

To beat it? 7/10

I haven't beaten the game. I've gotten through about all the levels except for the last 2 of the base game and the last one of the dlc.

I hate that easy mode basically equates to cutting out the final phase of a boss.

So basically you don't get to expierence the full expierence of the bosses

I didn't post in the topic but old games used to do that. Hell in Double Dragon II you couldn't fight the final boss unless you played on the hardest difficulty. If you played on easy the game just ends abruptly early.

There was a time where I was the Double Dragon II master on the NES. What a thing to brag about huh.

I hated that shit too. Street fighter 2 (at least one version) wouldn't show character endings unless you played on 4 star or above.

Though it did motivate me to get better but only cause I really loved the game

Man at least double dragon 2 cut easy mode players off a little earlier.....goddamn contra 3 waits until the last minute before telling you "nah man you better get good if you want to fight this actual final boss".

Then again normal difficulty I think cuts you off right before the second phase of that shadow warrior fight, so yeah some games just liked being dicks lol.

Those are dick moves especially since you can burn through lives quickly if a run starts going bad with some of those death traps. More so referencing DDII, but eek to Contra 3 and still applicable.

Personally I think I knew somehow that normal (named Warrior maybe) and Supreme Master (Hard) would do that, in DDII and that I doubt there is much difference in those difficulties anyway.
