I guess they anticipated that some channels wouldn't want to use the former, so they provided an alternative. --- "The US is not a single country. InuYasha for the blood and swearing and so on. Not sure about the US, but in Canada outside of Pokmon and Digimon most anime was considered late night programming and was often rated 14+ when dubbed. I remember when I turned 10 my mom started letting me stay up later to watch part of the late night block (Shout out Bionix) and it was a big deal for me.
