We have a handful in my city. Kcmo and Topeka have a lot though.

Every once in a while I will see homeless people hanging around in the casino where I work. Most are just passing through waiting to find someone to give them a ride either up to Reno or down into California.

Every day I wake up and promise I will be nice to everyone, then I deal with people at work and remember why that will never happen.

Yeah, pretty frequently in Phoenix, AZ.

I know this is kinda insensitive but I honestly don't know how our summer heat doesn't just cook everyone to death. I mean, obviously we do have quite a number of heat related homeless deaths, but especially with this most recent summer where we had a full ass month of 110+ degree weather, it's almost kind of hard to believe anyone could survive being homeless and not at least staying in a shelter or something. I see people bundled up on metal bus stop benches during the day and I know that shit ain't comfy.

Very much so. Hawaii has one of the worst homeless problems in the nation. Just recently a hobo punched a coworker (luckily just her arm though). And just today when I was walking to the bus stop after work to go home some crazy dude was screaming about how he wanted to fight everyone and walked straight to me, put his face inches away from mine, and said "What, you like go?!". I was tensing up because I figured he would try to sucker punch me <_<

Went out to buy some groceries today two blocks away, and yes, I saw a homeless person on the way.

I live on the far end of the block down from my town's Main Street. There are homeless people at about every other block of Main Street on average. Saw a guy sleeping under his blanket on a bench just the other day.

The pandemic hit our town kinda hard, and several buildings have been either for lease or abandoned for a long time now, perfect for homeless squatters. There's also a church down the way that acts as a sort of unofficial homeless shelter.

There's not a ton of visible homeless people here, but they're around. They're not creating camps or anything.

The city's stance on them is actually pretty humane. Theyre encouraged to sleep in train/bus stations in the winter so they dont die. The city has plans to eliminate like 1/4th of the homeless population by making a push to help get them into homes over the next couple years. The raw number of homeless folks has been pretty steady over the past decade. There are s solid smount of existing shelters. For all of the shit that the city doesn't take care of very well, they're addressing this pretty responsibly

Cleveland
It's a relatively large city and the homeless population should be much higher. I'd imagine low cost of living is a big reason for fewer folks falling into homelessness to begin with. They seem to be treated better simply because while it isn't a non issue, they're not overflowing into areas and becoming a huge nuisance.

With that, there's a lot of folks here barely escaping that level of poverty so imo there's some minor selfishness involved in maintaining assistance programs. It's easier to relate to homeless people when you're a hair from being evicted type of thing.

Ding ding ding. One simple trick to reduce homelessness is to have low housing costs.

Homeless? No.

Dirt poor? Yes.

Yeah you'd think some people are homeless around here. I've seen a drunk motherfucker passed out on thr porch of a abandoned house more than once but they ain't homeless. They just choose to get drunk and hang around there cause their wives don't like them drinking.

Oh , did dan gilbert have a lot do with helping the homeless in that area? Like funded a lot of those programs and stuff? I know he does a lot in the cleveland area. Forget if he mostly lives there or not ...

Around here, not really no. There's a shitty trend though, it's a small mountain town, where cops tend to "dump off" problems on other towns. So as a result, sometimes they haul someone homeless from their larger town to the small truck stop in our town and they wander around with nowhere to go until our police attempt to figure it out, or do the same thing back. So if we do get someone homeless here, they aren't from here, and get stranded for a day or two, usually by the cops.
