This was the High School I went to, and some friends still live in that district.

The bus was carrying students from Farmingdale High School in Nassau County when it overturned on I-84. They were headed to band camp in Greeley, Pennsylvania.

The crash happened westbound on I-84 in Wawayanda at 1:20 p.m.

Westbound lanes are closed at exit 15 for the investigation. New York State Police said the highway was expected to be closed for several hours.

The person killed in the crash is believed to be an adult. The five passengers who were critically injured are all believed to be juveniles.

I didn't know band camp during the school year was a thing.

Slight. Correction

The buses were carrying the ENTIRE School's freshman class. They were heading to Pennsylvania for some sort of band camp.

There were 6 buses overall. 5 are heading back to Long Island.

Yeah. Not a lot of news is coming out as to why the entire Freshman class were heading to the camp. But 6 buses carrying 300+ kids and teachers and chaperones.

Ugh. I'm a former marching band nerd myself. Hopefully their instruments were on an instrument bus cause that's a lot of flying metal around.

Parents worst nightmare. My daughter is in HS marching band, and they take busses to competitions. So scary.

Shitty.

I will never forget the night of the Schoharie, crash.
I worked with one of the sisters who was spared...basically because she had a new job, that twist of fate saved her life. ~But I bet she's never been the same since that night.

I think more about the worldwide tours crash in 2011. Bus flips and can opens itself on a pole, decapitating countless passengers.

Then there's also that infamous Meadowbrook crash that ended similarly with a young girl.
