With almost all other videogames people can criticize the visual style, the limitations, the plot, the characters, the accessibility, the level of difficulty, the lack of originality, etc.

But Tetris is just everything that it needs to be from the way it looks to the gameplay. A small child can play it and have a sense of achievement, and yet the challenge is never ending.

He initially got super fucked and didn't get paid anything by the people that published his smuggled out Tetris software, either.

For the longest time I thought that was the end of it, but I recently found out that once he moved the US he was not only able to get the copyright and some royalties, but he went on to create more games including Yoshi's Cookie. Pretty neat.
