Supposedly the girls were found in a ritualistic manner. One of the girl's blood was used to write Nordic Runes. And there was tree branches made into more runes

I'm very wary of claims like this because, while people do still murder other people in human sacrifice rituals, it's fairly rare. I remember a case in Florida some years back where a guy murdered his family, and he was a Wiccan. Since True Detective was popular at the time, some Barney Fife type in the sheriff's department came up with the story that these people were killed because of witchcraft... the reality is the guy just killed them to steal their money.

That said, if some cult were to actually do something like this, I could see it being a nazi one. Dehumanizing people to justify murdering them is kinda their whole thing, after all.

There was the alleged high blot sacrifice at Uppsala that happened every nine years and was recorded by Adam of Bremen. Nine males each of several animal species were sacrificed, with the finale being nine men. However, these men were typically criminals. However, Adam was a Christian monk, so he could have had an ulterior motive.

Then there's Ibn Faldun, an Arab merchant, who recorded a Viking funeral where a young woman was raped and sacrificed so that she could follow a dead lord into the afterlife. So we do have one impartial historical record of a human sacrifice in Norse society.

It seems some of the possible ritual evidence may not have been preserved because cops at the time didn't recognize what it was. I think they didn't save the sticks. They might have thought it was just random debris or an attempt to hide the bodies. And didn't recognize the symbols

Supposedly there may actually have been ritual looking stuff there. So either it's real, or him trying to deflect onto a fictional cult

Ibn Faldun has a fairly detailed account of a slave girl being ritually sacrificed, but that's the only one I'm aware of. Of course, written accounts of ritual suicide in Norse culture is pretty rare anyways.
