I've probably seen it about 20 times at this point. Such a good movie. The game was pretty cool too. I've seen the prequel twice and don't remember anything except for the end (obviously).

My favorite horror movie of all time. So many details. I highly recommend finding a way to watch the Kurt Russel and John Carpenter commentary. It's so enlightening to the process of making the film. Months of dedicated time went into wardrobe alone in order to differenciate who was human or not.

The Ps2 game rocked, was way ahead of its time. The prequel is garbage tier. Read "The Things" by Peter Watts for a fantastic fan made lore update. Very creepy pov of the thing itself.

Probably my favorite movie, period. It's so good and holds up super well.

The Prequel is... watchable, technically.

I'd love to see new The Thing based game made by the same people who made Alien Isolation

Was the newer one a prequel or a remake?
With the Wild man from Game of Thrones

A prequel.

Kristofer Hivju was def one of the only highlights of that movie, he's delightful in everything I've seen him in.

Greatest horror movie ever. The sad about the prequel is that alone, it is a very good movie, but since it is a prequel to The Thing, it had insanely high standards to meet and just didnt reach it.

Totally agree.

Regarding the prequel, IIRC they were using practical effects for everything (like in the original) and the producers came in, scrapped everything and jammed it full of CGI which IMO ruined it. The director was so pissed off I don't think he even went to the premiere.

I didn't see this movie for the first time until around 2019 and I loved it. The pacing and the way it builds tension is incredibly good.

This movie set the standard for every suspenseful horror movie that followed. The story is great, the effects are insane, the music slaps, the acting is super memorable... it's legitimately the most perfect movie in its genre.

I still say the most unsettling thing about the movie is Wilford Brimley without a mustache.

I just watched this video the other day and was surprised that 1982 The Thing was actually considered bad when it released and almost ruined John Carpenter.

Even back in 1982, audiences would rather be hand-held though a plot and not have ambiguous endings.

Possibly, but in the video it is stated that it was mostly the gore that made people dislike it.
