If the employer is telling you they have a retention problem, they're knowingly or not doing you a favor. Maybe you should focus elsewhere for employment. That's a problem caused by management in almost all cases.

Make a fake resume that shows you working at jobs for 4 or more years. Make sure you have friends you can set up to be called as references.

Then after you prove you'll stick around and get hired, quit after the 4th shift

So much this.

You dont want a job somewhere that has poor retention. I once left on day one of a job when it became clear that they had lied to me about staff retention in the interview.

Unless you're in a bad spot and absolutely need the money, never allow yourself to be exploited.

As already said, if it's a job with poor working conditions or your actual job doesn't match the description, just quit day one. You surely wouldn't be the first to do so.
