MLS' goal is to be on par with the SPL. At least the league has unofficially etched itself as the 5th in a Big 5 NA sports league. Local support is quite legit. Still, a long ways to go for national/casual support... a long ways. Old Messi isn't a thing for ppl watching other Big 4 superstars in their primes... & many for a lot less money. ... The salary cap in MLS makes it effectively impossible for them to compete with a team in a top tier European league that can spend as much as they want. Defense in MLS is legendarily bad because they don't pay defenders anything, they'd get absolutely destroyed.
