Romance:

  • Heterosexual: Here's my self-insert character and my imaginary ideal girlfriend
  • Homosexual: I'm gay. Here's my self-insert character and my imaginary ideal boyfriend
  • Lesbian: Girl on Girl is HAWWWT
  • Non-Existent: I'm a perma-virgin and I can't write what I don't know


It's like this for every aspect of my writing. I look for the worst possible interpretation the audience could have about my story.

I'm sure that's a natural thing that writers go through. They think the audience is immediately going to assume the story is self-indulgent trash. Or they worry that the Twitter mob is waiting to expose them to the world for how "problematic" they are. Even before there was social media, there was public opinion, dirt sheets, and whatever else. If you're allergic to being bee-stung, you probably don't need to be a writer.

What I'm really saying is that I need an excuse to not write and I've opted for a preemptive assumption of how my work will be interpreted as a reason to not go through with what I know I need to do.

In fictional media, bisexuality gets "erased" in a monogamous relationship. Writing a polyamorous relationship would just be horny writing.
