God Jack is such a doofus lol. Every bit as cringe as the trailer and memes made him out to be. Such a far departure from Clive.

Oh well. I got the game for the l00tz. And the combat is pretty dope so far. I like that there is no penalty for dying other than having to go back in the stage. Tonberry killed my ass with everybody's grudge. And Garland took a long time to beat for some reason. Maybe took around 10 tries. Gotta get a hang of when to guard and when to soul shield.

Digging pugilist/fists so far.

I keep thinking I wanna replay it. Maybe on Easy so I don't get all frustrated and stressed out. I never got the DLC, but I heard it was stupid garbage anyway, so whatevs.

I heard they balanced regular blocks so they weren't completely useless. The whole time I played, the block button was basically a "get broken" button so I just l just soul shielded, dodged, or died instead.

Fists are always a cool weapon. That's also what I initially gravitated towards.

Ya gonna say its worth it tbh. I never got the DLC for the same reasons the other poster heard, and I didnt decided to grind out after finishing the game, but for what I did grind after along with the main story itself, its a fun ride lol.

I dont think it should have been priced full at launch (I got it on sale too) but it was a really good package. Theres so much depth that doesnt need to be there lol, it makes it fun but I wish so badly that game was built out like FF16 or remake in terms of story and length

I heard the dlc at least adds two more weapons but IDK if they're dlc exclusive or they start dropping in the main game whenever

depends on style really. Its been way too long for me to give much advice so Id probably YouTube instead but most jobs are viable.

I always had a magic user 2nd because its easy to build up and swap at range for chip damage, buffs, and healing. Fists are a solid choice if youre feeling them, I ended up going slow/mage with marauder using an Axe, then a Lance on dragoon, before going Samurai for most my playthrough and I usually play fast classes like daggers.

main tips is dont worry about gear, and whenever you do make sure youre focusing on the little class % that gives bonuses for the classes you want. I barely remember it though so hard to describe well.

And obviously try and group a low enemy into others to do you stylized finisher which will chain the others around him and give you a bunch of that bar to you

It's been a while since I played (mostly at launch), but don't get too attached to the perks of your armor as you're progressing through the story. You mostly wanna equip whatever has the highest level. You can dip a couple levels if you have something that'll give you a really helpful buff, but the lower your equipment level, the more things will break and murder you, regardless of your actual stats.

Don't hold the soul shield button during fast combo attacks. It'll just waste your gauge and iirc only block one of the hits. You can mash it to block multiple hits though. Just keep an eye on the gauge as you do so. Also I guess regular blocking is probably a better option.

Been playing some more and found I oddly like mage. Thought it was just a pure casting class but the battlemage play style is dope and the abilities cause so much stagger. Managed to unlock Red Mage and see there's another level of either Tyrant or Void Knight. Gonna love this game.

Love that game. It's a shame the DLC is stuck on like the hardest difficulty though or something along those lines.

I'm mainly loving Red Mage and Breaker now. Red Mage because fast sword and board + HP restoring R1+R2. Breaker because of the insane break potential of brute tackle and cyclone thingy

Well you got me to start the game again. On Story difficulty this time lol. I'm early in it, but I'm surprised how hard enemies still hit. It's like they're glass cannons but so am I, when I'd prefer we both slowly whittle away at each other. But whatever, it's still less stressful than normal and postgame difficulties.

I'm trying to play around with different weapons this time and not just fall back into using the axe's quick R1 -> R2 combo for everything.

That's one of the few FFs that it isn't related to at all.

I was laughing like an idiot because early on when you visit the inn before you leave, the innkeeper is like "Hey Jack! You should take a rest before your journey!" And I imagined his response being "Hmmm...Chaos..." while nodding approvingly lol

I legit don't understand why the shots with the innkeeper are even a thing. There's nothing conveyed there. I know some of the weird scenes are weird for plot reasons or for laughs, but a lot of the choices they made in the game's presentation are a mystery to me.

I know the game got a lot of hate for the story when it released but I thought it was fun in a cheesy way. Jack was so predictable and one dimensional that I just wanted to keep seeing him do stupid badass Jack things. It felt very similar to Dante's role in DMC4.
