Everyone's picking sides over the Actor and Writer Strike but this could hit the every man even harder, and unlike those guys most would not just say," Stupid liberals are asking for what they don't deserve."

ALL these strikes shows most of society is on the verge of being replaced by AI and without the right moves a good chunk of humanity is going to be screwed over...feels like this is not being taken seriously enough, mostly because most of the powers that be are to old to care, ugh.

UAW worker here. We never expected to get the four day workweek. Its just something thats easy for us to give up in favor of something else.

Yet they somehow care enough when their power is in danger of being taken away from them.

Nobody wants that 32 hour week because that comes with losing a ton of benefits and a bunch of hokey shit that fucks with overtime and holiday pay

50% pay increase is what I see the number one and removal of the tier system which causes more temp workers to be hired instead of full time.

Benefit requirements and holiday pay are adjusted as well.

Overtime is gone, but the raises they're negotiating for are intended to make up for it

From everything I've heard, that is not the case. They make it sound like the 32 is great, but they can still use it to fuck with the pay. A lot of the local union guys have it all figured out and have said its a scam.

Also the lack of overtime fucks a lot of guys on special shift patterns. They aren't gonna go for that. Thats hundreds of guys in each plant being displaced and shuffled around.

I'll keep that in mind if I talk to unioned workers in person, but you're not really a reliable source based on your posts I've seen around and that second hand anecdote

I'm reading that some of the things they're asking for, like cost of living raises, are things the UAW agreed to give up in 2007 when the financial collapse began to help keep these companies afloat that auto makers decided they just didn't want to restore once they were doing fine financially again.

I'm down for more and more strikes.

Yes some of these things were given up before I started working there. We are just trying to get back to where we were.

Thats a lot of peoples fear. Getting hit with a TLO and not having sub pay. That means a check from unemployment of around 360 a week before tax.
