Well damn, that's disappointing.
It means 52% of Americans is that fucking stupid.

It means 52% of a voting pool of less than 2000 people are that fucking stupid. I have to wonder if the internet is going to ever grow out of it's "All Americans are unequivocally bad people, here's a post telling you why!"

The only way it could get even more tiring is if people started @'ing known Americans. But they wouldn't do that anyways because it'd be targeted, non-anonymous harassment.

That's the one, thank you for that. Democracy is great in theory until you realize that every election is essentially the same. They vote in one person, like Obama, and the next time someone gets put into office they vote in someone who is the polar opposite to Obama, in his case, Trump.

Same thing happened up here in Canada. People wanted Harper out, so they voted in his polar opposite, and now people are complaining about Trudeau.

Yes. The answer is yes.

It's why people should stop just assuming the average Republican voter, or proud "I don't vote" citizen is educated on what Republicans are actually doing or why it's important to vote in ALL elections (local, state and national).

The average citizen isn't even educated how laws legislation passes in government. Hence why so many are confused why student debt wasn't canceled, confused Roe v Wade was revoked, don't know how the fillerbuster works, and thinks the President can solve everything with a waive of a pen.

How many people do you have to poll before you intuitively think you can generalize, and why do you think that?

Well, the US is a country of 331.9 million people. 10% of that would be 3,319,000.

2000 people is not even 10% of that number.

You are polling less than a tenth of a tenth of a tenth of a percent of the nation's population. Such a poll could not be used to generalize.

But that is hardly the point. Such stupidity is not even uniquely American. Americans are just the easiest target because it has been fashionable to do so on the internet for as long as it exists.

And before you ask, if someone said "God all Chinese people are assholes" or "Russians are fucked up and need to be purged", or "Britts sound like giant pissbabies whenever they talk", I would be equally annoyed because generalizations in general are bad, despite being far too easy to fall into making.

The number you sample doesn't impact the accuracy of the estimate, only the uncertainty around that estimate. Looks like their margins of error are 2-3 % depending on the dataset.

To be clear, while your intuituon is common, that it's important to sample a large enough proportion of the total population to ensure representativeness, it is incorrect.

The average American can't name the first United States president, do basic multiplication without a calculator, or know what a periodic table is.

This isn't even getting into the wild conspiracy theories department.

That's why it always amazes me some are so adamant in assuming the average voter is educated in knowing what awful things Republicans are doing. A portion of voters think they deserve a pat on the back for voting once or twice, and dont really understand why the candidate(s) they voted for dont have the numbers to deliver everything they promisdd. Another portion of the country doesn't even grasp the importance of voting and need constant encouragement.

I'd argue the average American knows more about celebrity gossip or their favorite social media influencers content than they do basic math, science, US History, let alone US civics 101.

TLDR, we shouldn't be just assuming the average American is actually educated and informed on the things Trump did. Nor should anyone be assuming the content they binge day and night actually educates these people.

George Carlin had a bit about stupid people that pretty much nails this on the head.

"some people are really fucking stupid! Did you ever notice that?
How many really stupid people you run into during the day? Goddam there's a lot of stupid bastards walking around. Carry a little pad and pencil with you. You'll wind up with thirty or forty names by the end of the day. Look at it this way: Think of how stupid the average person is and then realize that half of them are stupider than that. And it doesn't take you very long to spot one of them does it? Take you about eight seconds. You'll be listening to some guy...you say..."this guy is fucking stupid!"

It is absolutely important when making a generalization of a whole.

Sampling less than 0.000008 of a population shouldn't be treated as the gospel or extremely accurate to the whole of what 100% of the population thinks.

It's like sampling 10 people and thinking you can safely know the thoughts of 1.3 million people.....

Which crisis did Biden fail?

He made a gaffe at the fires when talking about his kitchen, but the government response to the tragedy under his administration hasn't launched headlines of being inadequate.

Not so far on my news feed, anyway. Could be an algorithm thing. But I haven't seen evidence of failing a crisis beyond tripping over his own words in that attempt to empathize.

Thats like me saying those who pointed out a sample being way too small lowers the reliability of the study and increases the margin of error.

There's absolutely no point in your unsubstantiated claims of you "reading many studies." Frankly it doesn't help your point at all.

A sample of 10 cant speak to a population of 1.3million. Or a sample of 20 to speak for 2.6million. Yet there are many "studies" out there that one can find that can push a wide array of things, many of which can contradict each other. Some of which use dubious samples to push a headline. So called "studies" hitting media and social media has been a fun little trend that has pushed contradictory things for years now.

Coffee alone has many so called "studies" and those many studies don't all agree with each other because there's so many trash conducted studies out there with bad samples to push either an agenda, headline that chimes with those who are susceptible to believe absolutely anything that has the words "studies show" slapped on it.

The fundamental effects that describe how the human mind works were pretty much all found in samples of less than 20. Hell, Ebbinghaus discovered a fundamental set of rules that govern human memory from only systematically studying himself. The recency and primacy effects were found in experiments with n = 1.

You need a random sample large enough to detect the effect of interest, that's all.
