2:30 rolls around

Umm? For the record, Im waiting to have my refrigerator repaired. It has been out for over a month. This is what happens when the government allows rental agencies to buy every piece of land on the market, then they suddenly cannot manage them.

I had to call the landlord because Im never put directly in contact with anyone. They now say that the person will be here at 3:30.

This is what happens when companies short staff and put the work of four people onto one person.

Technician arrived at 3:45. We will see how long it takes this time. Weve already had two people show up and waste my day to not fix it. At least this guy brought boxes of parts, but I can tell this is going to take a while. The reason I wanted them to show up early is so that the fridge could cool down and I could actually buy some real groceries today. Ill probably be eating out again

Either way, I feel like the new corporate model of short staffing has affected every industry. One technician has the workload of four, so the customer sits and waits all day long instead of getting an accurate time frame. Then you have the fact that the rental company has 500+ properties which they got in a massive land grab and now theyre so short staffed that the tenants of the overpriced units cannot get things repaired in a timely manner. Its an absolute circus every time I message them.

As a former service technician, they should have notified you, but this has little to do with staffing issue, probably.

it is very hard to judge from a customer description how long a service call might take, and its easy for an estimated two hour call to turn into a six hour call.

but they should have called

Thats all I wanted. I could have gone out and gotten a few things done, but I had to spend my entire day waiting.

yeah if one of their early jobs ends up being something that takes all day they don't just leave and go to a different appointment. they finish the first one and whatever they don't get to that day happens the next day. and sometimes they show up and the place has already solved the problem so you just leave and go to the next one.

most of these companies don't have constant communication between the techs and people working in the office so if you call and ask for a time they can't really be super accurate.

At our last apartment our dishwasher broke about 1 year into our time there. We were told the line "I need to order a part and I will be back tomorrow to fix it" several times, and whenever we called the office about it they insisted they never heard that we were having an issue. We were there for 3 years. It was very frustrating. The final thing we heard was that we would need a new dishwasher and they would come install it the next day. Again, this never happened.

I honestly think that my landlord should adjust the rates for next month because I went over thirty days without a necessary amenity that was included in the lease. I personally think it was a breach of contract, but I really dont want to start a fight and get thrown out because it was a living nightmare even finding a place.

Im crossing everything and hoping that the guy can just fix it for good this time. Its been one hour and this is officially three hours of my time Ive had to entertain repairmen. I reported the maintenance request on about 32 days ago.

Would you prefer that a technician leaves your unfinished job to get to their next one on time? Because this is how that happens

Wow. So this was unexpected:

The guy literally got shitty and started a fight. He kept raising his voice and interrupting and talking over everyone. We raised our voices to match his screaming (dont fuck with me in my house) and shit got crayyyyy. Long story short, the problem isnt fixed and we threw him out under threat of the police. We got the motherfucker on camera screaming and yelling.

He literally claimed we fucking hit him! I never made any form of contact and never made a threat. Thats when the cameras came out. My landlord/property manager is on my shit list after this and Im going to have to go down there in person now.

the assessment that most companies usually do for free anyway, or the thousands of dollars of work that might need to be done?

Ive had calls that sounded like a simple resetting a switch turn into having to replace pumps, order parts, take apart entire valve manifolds etc

its not as simple as always be on time because then you would literally only be able to assign one job per person per day and thats completely unrealistic

Imagine shilling for companies keeping you on the hook for their service.

Imagine going to a restaurant and them telling you that your food will arrive in 3-5 hours, but if not then, maybe later. Imagine going to a movie theater to watch something and they give you a 6 hour window for when your movie will start.

If you can't be in the time period given, you should pay the person back for their time that you wasted.

If you disagree, idgaf.

Imagine someone is at your house and had your fridge taken apart, could finish the repair in another 2 hours but has to be somewhere else in a half hour, so he says bye bitch and leaves an unfinished job until hes able to get you on his schedule to return

I'm just curiously asking because I don't think you have any idea how real life works. It's chaotic, shit goes wrong all the time. Things you plan out don't always go accordingly. There will be times when no one calls in for anything so you're sitting around with more free time on your hand and there will be times when everyone calls in with the same problem and now you're trying to make at least the majority of those people who call in happy. Sometimes it's outside of your control because one assignment will end up taking longer than the other. This idea that someone in the service business has to do their service free or pay the person they're servicing money because they arrive late just screams entitlement imo.
