I'm through the third season and it's fantastic. I get not liking it if you don't like musicals, but other than that it's a ton of fun. Sad so many of the main cast have died young :(

People hate on Lea Michelle now and it did get genuinely terrible by the end.

I still liked it as a guilty pleasure tho.

Yeah Lea Michelle is a terrible person, no argument there

I don't know if other people are as bothered by it, but I really REALLY hate musical covers of pop music.

My wife and daughter love the show, and even they admit it was borderline unwatchable towards the end.

The show was unavoidable in my house while it was on, and I catch my daughter doing rewatches at least once a year. I never understood the appeal, but I was also never a fan of "jukebox musicals". I prefer the music to be original.

I don't love all of them but I feel like they've got enough creative and well executed ones to be worth it for me

I was so surprised to learn after watching it for the first time that Singing in the Rain is a Jukebox Musical

That's the answer I was going to say with why there's hate for Glee. Musical covers. This also goes beyond just songs. I'm not the hugest fan of musical covers/remixes for songs and game music.

I remember liking it the first few seasons, I think it suffered from the writers strike back then.

Also the last few seasons seemed to focus alot on Kurt. He was mean spirited and narcissistic, I just couldn't keep watching it.

Was there a writer's strike during Glee? I thought the last one was before it in the early 00s

From what I've heard, there are multiple major instances of her being a massive bully and Diva to multiple people on set, and afterwards as well

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

I think the whole thing started with her generically tweeting "black lives matter" like loads of people do and some of her black castmates called her out for racist remarks/behavior on set. She apologized. I think got dropped by Hello Fresh and some other stuff. But now is back in Broadway so it wasn't a career ending thing.

This. Basically, she's like Rachel irl. And she tested her castmates, specifically the black women, like crap.

Ha you're right, that just means the quality went down on its own and wasn't impacted by a strike

I liked it for a bit, but it dive-bombed in quality at near-record speed. One of my big problems with it was that both narratively and thematically, the group of losers who usual sing their cover songs and dress like other pop stars finally getting their moment to stand on stage and sing their own song about being happy with themselves, complete with tossing fake slushies at the crowd to mirror the opening scene of the whole series is very much the natural end point that the whole thing had been building up to... and they did it one and a half years in.

I watched like 1/3 of season one, I thought it'd be a hilarious dark comedy, instead it became a standard teen drama. Was very disappointed.

Unless it's 1776, or involves Trey Parker somehow, I'm not watching a musical.
1776 is kinda overrated, now that I think about it.

I dont remember exactly but I liked it less and less as it went on. Dont know when I quit but didnt make it to final season.

I think they wouldve benefited from leaning into high school club format: focus on just a couple characters each season that are the seniors, wrap up their arch, graduate them, promote side characters to seniors, shift focus to them and repeat with new character arcs for the new characters.

Problem with constant internal drama with a static group of friends is eventually they need to get their shit together or move on. Thats why shows like Seinfeld have some internal drama but mostly have issues with outsiders.

It was decent enough in the beginning. But as the seasons went on it became kinda annoying because the characters got fully flanderized. Kurt in particular became unbearable by Season 2.

It has a lot of problematic garbage about queer people that wouldn't have flown even back when it was airing, but today looks especially rancid.

I've never seen an episode of Glee in my life and strongly doubt I ever will, but that hasn't stopped me from reading a definitely-unhealthy amount of Glee fanfiction. I have no fucking clue why I'm like this.

You're not alone, I could tell you most of the plot points in Teen Wolf without ever having watched an episode.

Im gonna assume it was made for specific demographics, because a lot of it just seems ultra dramatic and really sleezy, yet other times weirdly optimistic and inspiring.
