Avoid eating anything up to 3 hours before you go or else you'll probably just puke it up.

I miss doing crossfit. I'd recommend just making sure you eat protein and carbs during the day so you have the energy to do it.

I've been considering going back to doing crossfit, but I'm so worried about someone getting covid not giving a shit about getting other people in the gym sick.

Don't try to use too much weight for the workout portions where you're using weights. Go light and just focus on completing the exercise and if you like it, work your way up to more and more weight as you keep going week to week.

Do a modified version of whatever seems unsafe. Idunno if y'all still do kettlebells going right over your head, but, fuckin', don't do that.

And always remember that form>weight. Take the weight you can without it breaking your form.

Yeah, when I did crossfit, they always gave people the option for modified versions of any workout.

Remember if you're cross-fitting you can't just have your week be 7 days, you need to have 21 days a week, unless you're like a caveman from like 300 years ago.

Youre gonna wake up sore tomorrow, then youre gonna be sore for quite a few days after. Dont let that discourage you from continuing within the means of your ability or convince you to quit.

Your body will recover and continue adapt. If youre starting from square one especially, you will get stronger, faster, more stamina, etc. even doing the wrong things. Your technique will also improve if you stick with it.

Im not a big advocate of CrossFit, but it is exponentially better than doing nothing. Plus, despite the stigma around CrossFit, if your gym is legit the instructors will actually be very knowledgeable and can teach you a lot while keeping you safe/healthy.

I second this - I would do more research into CrossFit before you partake.

many many fitness experts have derided CrossFit because its form is pretty dangerous.

another thing is that the professional cross fitters are pretty much on gear.

I'm not against gear btw, but cross fit doesnt portray it that way.

Bad for your first class.

Second this. Focus on form, not weight. Weight will come.

This is the case. The instructor should have scaling/modification options for every fitness and skill level.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

Its not insanely high, but it is a lot higher than other forms of exercise. A lot of it comes down to the individual and understanding your own limit. Injuries typically come when you try to push too hard usually at the expense of form. CrossFit does generally encourage this, so you kinda have to police yourself.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

And if you want to do a little bit of everything, do CrossFit.

This is incorrect, but annoying people have given CrossFit this impression.

Ive been doing CrossFit 3-5x per week for 7 years. Best shape Ive been in post college. It isnt the most efficient way to get and stay in shape, but for me its a program I can stick with and I rarely have to worry about having a workout buddy or coming up with my own programming.

Good luck TC! Have fun!

Communicate with your coach and scale, scale, scale. Don't worry about what everyone else is doing, focus on what you can do.

Any good CrossFit gym won't let you kip in a workout without demonstrating you can do the strict form of that movement. And hopefully the programming is getting some kipping practice in during gymnastics work as well.

Yeah, this was my experience. They'll demonstrate the kipping form, but won't have you do that unless you show you're ready for it. There are multiple modifications available for any movement.

Agree to an extent (coaches shouldn't be letting you do moves you can't control), and that's why I say you have to police yourself. To CrossFit's credit, they don't teach (or at least not supposed to) the momentum movements until you master the strict movements. Ultimately its on the individual to not skip steps though.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

What does "all that good" even mean? I'm in great cardiovascular health and decently strong (I'm in the intermediate category of most lifts according to stengthlevel.com). I was not these things before starting CrossFit. If I focused on powerlifting would I be stronger? Sure, but I wouldn't have the cardiovascular health. If I focused on cardio, would I have a better engine? Probably, but I wouldn't be as strong as I am now. CrossFit is a nice middle ground to be kinda good at a lot of things but not really excellent at anything.

Kipping isn't a lack of control. It's very much a controlled motion. You also aren't instructed to do kipping until you show you're ready for it, so it's a moot point in the first place.

Crossfit is always gonna be tough. It took me a long time to actually complete a workout because I was so out of shape. As I lost a lot of weight, I started doing better and better. Even then, I started pushing myself more and more with more weight or running longer distances faster. So I was always worn out.

Man, I miss it... I might look into starting crossfit again at some point.
