but wine taste testers are scam artists there is no scientific proof they can do anything and they fail blind taste tests done in a controlled environment

Who is being 'scammed' by wine taste testers? Are they convincing poor people to be satisfied with tiny bottles of low quality vintage now?

It's just people describing the taste of wine. No one claimed it was science. Nobody thinks that people who like wine are 'eiltes' or think they are better' than anyone else.

Most of them work as buyers for retail chains. They test the wine, then recommend an order, or not.

Okay so, this doesn't sound like anything anyone should be bothered by. Like even if it is a scam, what is anyone losing? If you can establish some sort of relationship between the tester and the product they recommend, that's fraud, but otherwise it just seems like someone giving a recommendation and them possibly pretending its more qualified than it is.

It's not a scam at all. TC is just permanently bothered by her fantasies about what the 'elites' are doing to poor people. And it's rarely the terrible stuff that they are actually doing, it's more this shit that's rooted in some imaginary grievance.

Meanwhile, in two years she couldn't be arsed to register to vote and cast a postal vote.

When you see a bottle of wine and it says it's 'light' or 'full-bodied', or 'fruity', or 'dry' or 'sweet' . . . that's what wine tasters work out. They try wines and buy them for retailers. If the wines they pick don't sell, they won't have a career for very long. It's like being a fashion buyer, but with wine. A few take part in competition or judging events. It's a totally harmless activity.

That's not exactly true, OP.

Scientific studies have found that it's difficult to discern whether wine is of a significantly higher quality based on taste. I.e. you can't draw a line between how something tastes and how much it costs.

That doesn't mean all wine tastes the same. Like...literally anyone who drinks wine can confirm that for you.

No offense, TC, but you clearly don't know what you are talking about.

No, not all wine tastes the same. Not all wine are made of the same quality. There are many different reasons why wines can taste totally different depending on the year, region, placement of the grapes, weather etc.

If you don't know these differences or can't tell from tasting wine by yourself, no one is shaming you. No one is saying "Unlike you, I'm special because I know about (good) wines". Well, at least not the decent people I have in my personal environment who I regularly drink wine with. No one behaves like an elite, instead, we just like to try out different wines for the sake of trying out. And because we want to know more about the region or vineyard the wine comes from. It's a hobby. We are interested in getting to know how something is produced.

If you can't relate to that feeling, that's fine. No one says you have to. No one says you are worth less if you don't.

But for god's sake stop act like everyone who likes good wine sees themselves as "elite". We don't see ourselves like that. You just like to shit on people you don't like, because you're either envious that you can't afford buying good wine, or you are not interested in stuff like that while being intolerant towards others, who are into that.

Of course, there are always exceptions. There are people who sell fake wines and stuff. I mean, scammers. They exist everywhere.

But wine tasting per se is not a scam and there are many decent sommeliers who take their job serious and give honest advices to people interested in wines. You just don't know them apparently.

I briefly worked in the wine department of a liquor store and had a few tastings done as part of the job. Unless ones tongue is messed up, a person can usually make distinctions in taste.
The bottles price is a separate affair. High price does not equate quality. Branding, amount of available, and vintage can affect the price. Certain vintages may be better than others, and this may be seen on the price.

I can tell the difference between different types such as a Malbec and a Merlot for example. Also I can tell the difference between a really cheap bottle and a more expensive bottle. I do feel once you get over 30/40 for a bottle the returns deminish.

Anything stupidly expensive I dont see the point. I cant tell the difference between and 30 bottle of wine and a 200 bottle.
