Caesars is expected to make a regulatory filing that will state how much they paid the hackers. Not sure when that's gonna happen, though.

Apparently some of their systems are still offline. People are having to check in in person and there are long wait times.

There are some reports that they may not be able to issue paychecks on Friday unless they do it manually.

That's a good question. I'm not sure how much people who already had reservations are paying attention to the news on this, nor do I know how people would handle it if they've been planning a trip to one of their hotels for a long time.

Hackers are threatening to do more damage unless MGM Resorts pays

Like, do these massive companies not have air gap solutions on their shit or something? You would think companies of this nature, this large, would have top notch security protocols and technology. If their cyber security is anything like their camera systems this shouldn't happen in 2023, even with the front line of IT getting cracked.

Almost has to be a coordinated, organized inside job. Maybe years in the planning. It's a hard pill to swallow a 10 minute call to the helpdesk could cause this much destruction unless their security was total and utter shit.

So I've been reading some inside stuff on reddit, former employees and contractors who have done gigs for MGM, and apparently their IT is a total shitshow ran by some former military guy who failed the psych test to become a cop.

This is one of the things I was complaining about with my old job. The company absolutely did not value their IT department. They hired a jackass as director of IT operations at one point. If that dude got his way 100% of the time, things would have been a shit show. There were about 4 or 5 people in the IT department at my old job who were desperately trying to keep shit on the rails because he kept making stupid decisions and trying to force us to implement them.

After I quit, they ended up hiring someone as a "Senior Network Architect" who couldn't even do what would be considered basic level network admin work. I'm glad I quit. It's hard to work with people like that, especially when you're responsible for critical infrastructure.
