This was an IGN preview and review of a Mary-Kate and Ashley game back in 2002

https://www.ign.com/articles/2002/11/01/a-look-at-mary-kate-ashley-sweet-16-licensed-to-drive
On June 13th of 2002, Mary-Kate & Ashley Olsen turned 16. That makes it less than two years until the former Full House stars will finally turn 18, which means they'll be of legal age to vote. This year, though, they've gotten their drivers' licenses, and are now able to cruise the country with friends, partaking in the various pastimes that most normal teenagers enjoy, such as playing geographical trivia and collecting flying clothing.
Mary-Kate & Ashley Sweet 16: Licensed to Drive is a party game aimed at young girls, but it's entertaining for everyone in some fashion or another. The game has a slew of mini-games to play, ranging from surfing to off-road racing, which is funny, because that's exactly what most people think of when they hear the names Mary-Kate and Ashley. Being a party game, it's best played with four people, though if the house is empty and you're in the mood, you can have some single player fun that only requires your joystick.

If you're unable to play with the teenagers for long periods of time, and you're only really able to last a few minutes like some unfortunate people, then the Bring It On and Arcade modes are for you.

http://web.archive.org/web/20190225044602/https://www.ign.com/articles/2002/11/27/mary-kate-and-ashley-sweet-16

We've watched over the years as Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have grown from the cute twins on the horrible, life-sucking television disaster Full House into sexy -- err, well, pretty, anyway, young women. Okay, we admit it, we can't wait until they turn 18 so that we won't feel so guilty about our sickening, borderline sadistic thoughts and extended day dreams about them. The girls have in recent years starred in their own videos and appeared in several successful videogames. Now GameCube owners can snap up the twins in an all new thrilling title, the anticipated Mary-Kate And Ashley: Sweet 16.
Sweet 16 chronicles the far-too-easy lives of the two sisters as they learn to drive and compete in a variety of party-style events best suited for multiplayer bouts. The game doesn't excel in any single department and in fact proves rather clumsy in more than a few, but at the end of the day Mary-Kate and Ashley fanatics will probably still want to get behind the wheel with these glamorous teen beauties.

We're sorry to see that there are no FMV sequences of the Olsen twins on the beach -- we kid, we kid.

This was a video games starring and developed for young teenage girls.

This wasn't an Ashton Kucher thing. This was a 'this is how society viewed and used young teenage celebrities' thing. In the 90s there were literal erotic thrillers about married men fucking psychotic high school girls.

Did people not grow up in the 90's? A lot of what has been said wasn't exactly uncommon back then.

A lot of people are digging up Kutcher's past to find "gotchas". People don't understand how cultural acceptance of things is totally different from 20 years ago.

If Kutcher made the same joke today it would rightfully raise a bunch of red flags. However, this joke was so damn common 20 years ago it is really difficult to tell if it is actually based on his character or if he is just using a common trope (at the time) to try to make people laugh.

You don't need to dig up the past to know Kutcher defending a rapist is a bad thing.

The sad thing is it wasn't just a joke back then.

https://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/harry-potter-and-the-chamber-of-secrets-2002

In the new movie, Harry (Daniel Radcliffe, a little taller and deeper-voiced) returns with his friends Ron Weasley (Rupert Grint) and Hermione Granger (Emma Watson, in the early stages of babehood).

She looked like this;

This isn't some trashy outlet. This was well respected movie critic Roger Ebert saying stuff like this. This was how normalized this garbage was.

I remember countdown websites back then for several actresses, and it always seemed weird to me. But yah it was a lot different back then.

Never thought I'd see the day Ashton Kutcher get cancelled, considering all the work he's done for sex trafficking victims.

Movies like American Pie will not see the light of day in the current timeline, that's for sure.

So it's pretty easy to see why now, yeah.

Good for him, too. Kept his nose clean by not being a creep and associating with questionable people, and got to work on projects he wanted to after all the money he obtained for That 70s Show.

What stuck out to me was, when the accusations of him being an asshole surfaced, he just kept his mouth shut. Whether that was because of self-preservation or knowing that the truth would get out we don't know, but he obviously made the right choice.

It's not a defense of anything. It's just pointing out that this isn't limited to him back then nor is it evidence of some bizarre conspiracy theory that he was involved in the murder of his girlfriend which is the weird rabbit hole the internet is falling down with this.

He was shitty from his letter defending Masterson. Doesn't really need to be more than that.

Didn't the Olsen twins only get super skinny later on? Before they looked healthy.

They definitely had it rough. Being a child star can really fuck you up.

In the late 90's / early 00's, cracking inappropriate blue jokes about teen actresses / pop stars was nearly as synonymous and pervasive as, say, using 'gay' as derogatory slang; it was incredibly fashionable for a time, a rare few realized from the outset that it was in poor taste, others slowly came to this realization themselves, and eventually it fell out of fashion.

You are correct, it's not a defense of a person's character to point this out, because it was bad behavior at the time, and it took some people longer than others to realize it. But at the same time, when someone digs it up in Current Year as an attack on their character, in terms of damning evidence it's about as compelling as revealing that they wore JNCO jeans in the 90's. The other evidence you mentioned is far more worth everyone's time to focus on.

Dude apparently committed perjury after finding his girlfriends corpse because he didnt want to get suspected or look bad or whatever and this lie eventually leads to a mistrial which allowed the killer to claim another victim.

Im disappointed by his letter, but that Punked thing is typical 90's, early 00's media jokes. That said...he deserves anything coming his way over claiming leniency for Masterson. You dont do that even if they were your son, brother, dad. You dont.

People tend to give more leeway to old people, they aren't as known as Kutcher, and they aren't associated with an organization that is aimed at preventing sexual violence.

Nowhere near well as known.

Also don't run an organisation dedicated to fighting sexual violence and trafficking. Just spits on all Ashton claims to do. Why should people trust him when he defends the people he admits are abusers?
