So next week marks the week when I'm officially not with my company anymore. I've never been not working.

What's the reason? Well, management found out I was looking for a new job. I told a colleague, who then told others. Because of this, I felt pressured to quit prematurely, without having anything lined up.

I feel kind of bad for getting welfare now. Not that I'm not grateful. I just kind of feel like a lesser person, lol

You've been paying into that welfare your entire adult life up till now for just so a occasion.

So there's nothing to fill bad about finally collecting on it.

That's what welfare is for.

You haven't done anything to feel bad about.

Why would you have to leave just for looking for another job? You should always be looking for another job.

You told a co worker who went around your back and told management? Who wouldn't be pissed off by someone doing that? Why do people do that?

You made several mistakes in that short story alone.

  1. Never tell anyone other than very close friends you trust you are looking for a new job.
  2. Never quit without something else lined up, regardless of pressure. If they want you gone then have them fire you.
  3. Don't feel bad about using resources that exist for this very reason.
  4. Use this time effectively to look for a job and to take some time off. Whenever I change jobs I always have a couple of weeks between them to just chill out.

I usually make it very clear to management that Ill leave for a better offer. It makes them give me a good deal.

It also makes them see you as flaky as unreliable and may have them look for a replacement.

I'm not easy to replace but I'm not irreplaceable. There is no benefit to outright admitting I will leave for a better offer, even if I would.

Ive already stated what the benefit is.

Of course, context matters. But Ive been open with my current employer about the sentiment that Id move for a better offer and theyve promoted me twice since. Ive been there just over a year.

Im not saying its always a good idea, but its not always a bad one either.

Wait, so you quit instead of forcing them to lay you off? Never let a company pull that shit, they just want you to quit so it costs them less.
