WW was solid. One of the better DCEU movies.

WW84 was awful and sorta had casual rape as part of the storyline.

WW84 was so bad that my wife and one of my daughters who absolutely loved the first movie stopped caring about this iteration of the character as a result. My other daughter, my sons, and I merely disliked it.

So WW.

WW was fine, something on par with the average Marvel film. 84 was like three different versions of a movie smashed together in post-production to form the shitshow that we got. I enjoyed most of the scenes with the evil guy, but the rest was just a mess.

WW obviously, which IMO was really good.

I actually didn't mind '84, but definitely was a step down.

WW84 sucks, but the rape thing is really a bad take. Its concerned about the body and not the consciousness that was consenting. The choice was to use that was a dumb and bad 80s movie homage that has no real world parallel (other than maybe dissociative identity disorder), because its functionally possession.
The first WW was an above average/good superhero movie. Id almost say it was great, but the DBZ fight at the end was stupid.

If you extend this logic then you can argue that having sex with a passed out person isn't rape as they weren't conscious for it.

No man, it was bad and even in the theater if felt awkward as fuck. Especially as it was easily fixable as there was no reason whatsoever for Pine to possess someone else other than for her to be confused for ten seconds and a weird hallmark christmas movie ending scene for ten seconds.

It's still problematic because ultimately, anything that happens to his body still affects him. Consciousness does not matter.

I cheered when I heard that there would be no more WW movies after WW 84 bombed hard. It means no more Gadot disgracing the name Wonder Woman.

Steve Trevors consciousness was in the body. Steve Trevor consented. Steve Trevor has free will to do what he desires.
The decision to include that element in the movie was stupid- I dont disagree there. I just think trying to push it as rape was a gimmick to further stigmatize a bad movie. Does anyone complain any other time anything akin to possession happens in movies?

It's still rape dude. It's HIS body and somebody he didn't consent to had sex with HIS body. It doesn't matter what consciousness is in there if the owner of the body didn't agree to anything.

And other movies that feature bodily possession usually treat it as a bad thing, so that doesn't help your point

I really liked Wonder Woman, but I felt like it kind of sidelined its own message/theme at the end by having the war actually end when Ares was defeated.

Wonder Woman 1984 was just bad. I am usually very easy to please, but there are so things I disliked about that movie even while in the middle of watching it that I just don't ever have the desire to see it again. And on top of it being a pretty bad movie, it's made worse by the fact that it is supposed to be part of a shared universe. 1984 wasn't that long ago in the DCEU. I think it was even after Bruce Wayne lost his parents, so having a whole climax that involves the entire world having their wishes granted without it ever being mentioned again is really odd, even when the movies are meant to be kind of loosely bound together.

What? lol, no. Like why would you even think that? It came out in the height of the pandemic (Dec 2020) and was day-and-date on HBO Max, so it didn't make hardly any money. Only made $170 million worldwide vs $823 million for the first.

If someones body is used without their consent, they were raped. In the case of the movie, both are rapists. In the case of a scenario where the other partner doesnt know about the body swap, the person in the body is the rapist.

You seem to be going by nobody was hurt logic, so instead imagine if the body was put through absolute debauchery of all kind. Then imagine if that was your body. Would you feel violated or not care?

I give agency to the conscious individual, who was Steve Trevor, over the vessel the consciousness subsided in. Steve Trevor was free to engage in whatever acts he would choose to do. Its not no one gets hurt, but it is conscious minds have freedom to make choices for themselves. The man was a bag of flesh and wholly irrelevant since a consciousness was active inside of him. Diana would be at fault for making the wish that was answered in such a manner as possession, but once Steve Trevor was in control, all actions were Steve Trevors to make.
Since I dont believe in possessions in the real world, I dont think any real-world parallel fits because the scenario is impossible.

Except that isnt the circumstance. Its the possessing entity is in the body of the one who owned the house. By all practical means, the possessing entity now owns the house. If some magic contest had been drawn beforehand, perhaps this couldve been argued against. The movie never indicates the original bodys owner was even around until the end, making the flesh simply a secondhand object at that point, an item unwittingly put in a donation box.
