Well they're making a full 7 season Harry Potter show and doing new LotR movies with possibly Peter Jackson.

DC had its chance and they flopped.

That's coming from someone who wants to make more money off those franchises, I like complete stories, which two of those things are.

Harry Potter for sure. LOTR not at all, it had 2 different film series and has a huge TV series, as well as dozens of games. DC I also disagree with, tons of movies and TV shows, maybe a little light on the games.

But Harry Potter I feel just flat out stopped after 7-2. Sure they started the Fantastic Beasts shit, but that was so loosely tied to Harry Potter for the first film or two that it was almost nothing like the wizarding world.

I've long said they should have remade the films as TV shows with each book encapsulating a season. That way they could literally give 8~ hours per book, instead of 2.5 that the films did. One of the only complaints people seemed to have about the film adaptations was that they cut out tons of shit from the books. This would remedy that. As for games, they just released Legacy, but prior to that it was just film tie ins.

Harry Potter needs to stay fucking dead, it's an absolute miracle that the movies were as good as they were and that's not happening again, and DC is an absolute disaster. Never mind that it's actually over-utilized.

Tolkien is definitely underutilized in terms of media, at least compared to the Star Wars and the TERF books and the Marvel, but I don't think anything of lasting value is going to be made in that franchise in the current media climate, nor do I think that audiences are going to treat any new Lord of the Rings media with trust.

The problem with LotR and Harry Potter is that they seem to have the same issue Star Wars does where they're seemingly just too afraid to make anything that can stand on its own, with no connections to any characters that appeared in the original books/movies.

Even Hogwarts Legacy has a shit ton of characters where they basically slap you in the face that they're related to someone from the books, and of course that's not even counting the castle lol.

WB, who outright told fans that had bought their completely broken Batman game on PC that they couldn't create patches to fix it b/c they were too busy working on paid DLC for it.
WB, who insisted AEW reward toxic locker room cancer and part time co-worker assaulter CM Punk w/ his own show rather than fire him.
WB, who chose Zack Snyder of all people to originally helm the DC movie universe.

I've maintained for a long time now, WB is the most incredibly mismanaged idiotic shit show of a giant corporation of our age. It's amazing the entire company hasn't managed to bankrupt itself w/ its poor decisions yet.

And no, the problem is absolutely quality, not quantity.

To be fair, the nature of Heards role makes her very hard to excise and Mads Mikkelsen was a better fit for the role than Depp ever was anyway

Yes, that Fantastic Beasts movie was very well-received, and Amber's looming presence in Aquaman 2 isn't hurting its box office potential at all.
It all worked out just fine!

(I wouldn't even begrudge them hastily removing Depp before the evidence was out if they were just cautious about actors' maleficence in general. But it's the juxtaposition of them doing that, but having like 2 years to replace Amber's scenes and not doing it, and sunk cost fallacy'ing Ezra Miller's Flash movie into existence that really sours things. Any one of them alone in a vacuum you could say, "they're just risk averse" or "they don't like changing course". Instead it's, "wow, their values system is shot all to hell".)

The Harry Potter Franchise doesn't have much legs. Hogwarts Legacy is good but outside that every attempt at a new book or new film series has been a wet fart.

completely disagree here. The movies were at best. OK. The books can certainly be adapted better and so I am excited for a TV series that gives them the time to do so. To say that the movies were good is an overstatement.

I really hate that LotR is going to be milked like this more than the others. They simply made bad movies with DC properties while Disney did well with Marvel, and Harry Potter are silly kids books... LotR is a genre defining work that is best left with some mystery and finality about it, not something to be milked for McDonalds happy meal toy tie ins and endless bad CG spectacle sequels and prequels.

Hey now, that's a pretty scathing summary. Be careful, your forgot to mention their new CEO David Zaslav cancelling completed shows, and using those and many others for tax write offs. So nobody owns them and all that art is lost.

You dont really wanna milk a franchise like LotR. Just at Disney with SW. But it would be cool to see more lotr backstory.

While I disagree with why Depp was fired.

That said had they kept him as Grindelwald it wouldn't have helped the film. He was part of the reason the second film sucked. Frankly I think Depp is overrated as an actor. An over acting hack.

Make a bigger better version of the old Two Towers and Return of the King video games and reasonably price them, folks will eat them up.
