If they are real, they make him sound even more worse. He put on a facade in public but behind closed doors he was a monster. While writing those they should have asked themselves, "Did I actually know this person?"

Hell, I'm more annoyed by Zack Snyder getting the JL cast to tweet, "Release the Snyder cut". Both were obvious abuses of friendship.

I feel the "b-b-but think of his daughter" parts are especially sickening. He didn't give a fuck when he was raping someone else's daughter. Now not only his victims have to live with that trauma, but that little girl has to live with the fact that her father is a famous rapist as well.
Even if the judge were to be magically swayed by these letters and went "Well...let's take it down to 3 years", that little girl is serving a life sentence being his daughter and will always get asked "Masterson? Are you related to Danny Masterson?"

Am I to assume everything that happens during the trial process will become public knowledge at some point?

Seems like everything gets leaked when it comes to any form of information.

There's plenty of details here about the accusers describing what happened to them. Between the monstrous shit he did and the Scientologists doing textbook cult shit to suppress/intimidate, it's pretty fucked up. It makes the letters pretty stunning to read and makes me wonder if they ever expected them to go public.

This does reflect poorly on them. It's upsetting, but I don't know enough about how character witnesses work.

Overall I don't think this destroys their character. It's a red flag, and they'll have to be viewed with more scrutiny, but hopefully they'll still do good in the world

Someone should write letters to the Kutchers and tell them to fuck right the hell off and know their place.

I'm not sure what to think of the guy. I don't have a link handy, but I recall reading from more than one source that Ashton Kutcher had a strong part in lobbying the EU to formulate and try and pass that legislation they are working on to ban private communications and to mandate scanning all messages for abuse and criminal activity. Someone who used to work for his organization is now part of another group which recently made news for trying to get Apple to roll out that scanning technology they shelved because it doesn't work and is dangerous.

Maybe Kutcher and his non-profit are above-board, but I personally feel he might be a piece of shit who does some good to try and cover for it.

After it was done and everyone was gone, I was sitting there talking to Judge Starcher- he was generous with his time and interesting to listen to, and I said something to the effect of "You have to get tired listening to all these people say how good these bad people are."

He paused, looked at me, and said "If your friends and family won't defend you, who will?"

I've never forgotten that.

Danny Masterson is an awful person who did some awful things and should and will spend a lot of time in jail.

But the Danny Masterson I know is not the Danny Masterson Ashton and Milas know, so they wrote in to testify about their friend.

And that's ok and doesn't make them bad

.... Seems kind of bad that the expectation is for friends and family to defend you regardless of what you've done. Part of being a friend is being truthful and upfront when one of you fucks up.

I'm really just curious what kind of letter was written.

Like, I'm a big prison reform guy who thinks we should have reduced sentences for most crimes, and I try to be consistent about it. So I don't have too big of an issue with someone making that argument... As long as they don't only believe in it for their friends.
