Were you expecting the promotion, or did it come out of the blue?

Just worked there for a while and they offered it to me

by losing 5 pounds, do you need to hear it?

by working for a few seasons
have a good attitude and get along with coworkers no matter who
perform excellent work
admit faults
problem solve
and be on time obviously and tell why you couldnt make a certain day if you didnt go to work

Ive had both.

At my current job I was there for about a week and a half before they promoted me. Other jobs Ive had to apply for the promotion, sometimes with a a fairly gruelling process.

Ive also worked at places where I suspect I could have worked there for 40 years and never had a sniff of a promotion.

I didn't do shit. My boss wanted a supervisor so he didn't have to be the bad guy when it came to disciplining subordinates when they screw up. He gave me all the work he didn't want to do.

Was smarter than the alternative. Not hard to do in manufacturing. Being the race i am helped too, because the industry is full of racists that distrust people of certain ethnicities. One of the managers was literally a slack jawed yokel. The other was a raging alcoholic. The 3rd was a gem.

But it did take a boss (#3) recognising potential without being threatened by it. Which is rare in dying industries. Hell, its rare everywhere.

I was offered a promotion at my old job because over a half dozen people that had been above me the last 8 years were suddenly leaving the department around the same time. I didn't take it and found a different job though.
