Musk made the decision out of a fear that the attack would lead Russia to retaliate with nuclear weapons, according to Isaacson.

Sounds like he knew it was for a military operation but decided he didn't want to be part of escalating.

And instead was part of escalating when the Russian fleet he was so concerned for bombed civilians. So for all his desires to not look like a Russian shill, guess who he happily decided to help murder civilians because he felt he knew more than actual military.

The attack was meant purely to intercept Russian ships planning to attack Ukraine, yes.

Maybe that should've been made clear to Musk when he raised his concerns? Instead of just telling him to fuck off and calling him a Russian propagandist while he's literally supporting Ukraine. There are ways to handle a disagreement between allies, and that wasn't it.

Obviously Musk is more in the wrong, but the situation was avoidable entirely by not outright provoking a dude who's providing voluntary aid.
