It's supposed to be a comedy, but when he stumbles on his mother (scarjo) hanged so suddenly like that, that scene almost broke me it was so unexpected (yet expected) and heart-wrenching.

Still, it was a great and imo fresh way to present the ww2 and nazi setting in a movie, through the eyes of a fanatic 10 year old hitler youth kid who begins to doubt the bizarre propaganda after discovering a jewish girl in his house that his mother was hiding.

Went from worried I'd hate the ending to loving the ending. The performances of everyone were standout.

Can we talk about how adorable scarjo was in this movie? Absolutely stellar performance.

Sam Rockwell was great too, I liked how they subtly threw in that he was having a gay relationship with theon greyjoy and he didn't really believe this crap, to the point where not only does he help both jojo and elsa against the gestapo, but ensures that jojo goes free after they're all captured by russian communists and about to be literally shot to death.

The boy who played jojo was pretty good for a kid. But the stand out performances were scarjo and elsa.

Yeah, pretty damn good movie. It was a hard sell though, almost like a bait and switch. Good premise for a satire that works in reality.

I don't know why there aren't more gifs of scarjo dismissively slapping sam rockwell that's one of the most hilarious scenes in the movie, straight out of I dunno, bugs bunny or looney tunes or something in the best possible way.

Really want to reiterate how much I loved that ending

https://youtu.be/BfL5V3WHhqM?t=72

I cracked up so hard when the little kid started dancing he's hilarious and it was the kind of laugh of relief, not just humor, relief at the war being over, seeing the American flag and soldiers, knowing that it's finally safe to be outside.

Yeah i used to watch clips of it a lot and recommended it to everybody after i watched it. Watched it twice in theaters.

The intro of the movies with him talking to himself in the Mirror with Hitler and then the German version of the Beatles song had me all smiles and let me knew this movie was gonna be good.
