.seen this happen sometimes. Like the store or the bank needs their social security number or other information to complete a transaction but they are very distrusting of giving out their personal data but you can't do it if you don't have this information so they want you to do it some other way

Why would you ever need to give someone your social security number in retail unless it's to get a job?

Bank, yeah you have to give it to open an account.

I'm like this at the doctor's office, though. They're infamous for having insecure IT systems in general and they don't need my social security number since my insurance already has it.
