I started a new game for funsies today. I've mostly followed the rules and did the first three shrines in order. Took minor breaks from the intended solutions to puzzles in them, but nothing crazy. I tried to take the underground passage to cross the sail raft lake, but there's a rock wall blocking it and no explosives or smashing weapons available. Oh well, I sailed across the lake like a good boy.

So I get back to the Temple of Time, open the door, and realize you can sneak up the gears without Recall. But when you reach the HP gate, Rauru tells you to turn around and get the power first. I do that, fail to open the HP gate, and then decide to try to screw the rules one last time. I find a spot where you can Ascend out of the temple and use a Wing to reach the spot where Zelda steals your sword. But she doesn't!!

Like why even. If you already have all the powers, what's the point of keeping you locked in the sky? And what's the point of all these physical roadblocks if someone's just gonna stand beyond them telling you "no lol" anyway? I also saw a challenge run where the guy was trying to get the fifth sage without doing some early game stuff and at one point the game just gives you a text box telling you to come back later for no reason. Y u no open world, Zelda?

The tutorial zone in both games are basically ironclad. You CAN climb down off the GP but it'll just void you out if you haven't hit the right triggers yet.

The other thing you saw is weird though, the trigger for it is something basically everyone does long before they reach it, it only comes up if you're doing a weird challenge run.

But outside of those the game is extremely open, so that's nice.

and i can TELL you, always faster and easier to just kill em. Just is!

To trigger that temple, you just need to activate the tower at Lookout Landing or something for some reason, right? The challenge run was no weapons and no paraglider, so he never got to activate towers. Like, why is that related to that temple at all? If you can make it up there through the storm and whatever, you should be allowed to continue. >:[

Yeah, it is nice. I've really enjoyed both games. I'm gonna try doing the main quests in at least a slightly different order this time. In my first run, I accidentally did get the fifth sage early and went back to do the quests leading up to it later, so I figure I'll not sequence break that part this time lol.

For some reason it's tied to getting the paraglider. Who knows why, it's a really weird thing to use as a trigger, and AFAIK it's the only thing in the game that uses the paraglider as a trigger.

Maybe there's some weird bug that happens if you try to do it without having the paraglider in your inventory. Games are weird like that sometimes, there was this one random totally normal rock in a area in WoW that would cause the game to freak out whenever they would try to move it somewhere else, so they ended up leaving it in place until Cata gave them the excuse to redo the entire map.

Yeah, that is a really arbitrary roadblock if it isn't just a load-bearing trigger. Ah well.

While I admire Nintendo's resilience in the matter, I think it'd be cool if they programed in one sneaky hidden way to escape the great sky island early.

The biggest sequence breaks I did on my first playthrough were getting the Master Sword after the Wind Temple and doing the Spirit Temple third instead of fifth.

I also made it to the Wind Temple before the game even wanted me to go there, but sadly I couldn't complete the puzzles or even save a warp point there since I wasn't far enough in the scenario. So I had to redo about half of it when I finally did progress in the story.

You have to have activated the Regional Phenomena quest. Last playthrough I activated the towers without reporting back to Purah and then when I got to said spot, wouldn't let me do the spoiler thing.

That makes more sense than tying it to specifically having the paraglider.

Yeah, for the Wind and Water Temples, I already had the shrines, so it was a quick trip to the top. (I actually reached the Water Temple itself hunting for Koroks, but I reloaded an earlier save when the "Water Temple" intro popped up because I didn't want to go there yet). Then when I actually did the main story, I hoverbiked to get to the Water Temple.

I feel like I kinda missed out because everyone says "the path to the temple is basically part of it." Though the Fire Temple really has nothing interesting on the way there (except maybe a Talus or Hinox, but I already killed them) so there's no shame in just blitzing to it. And Lightning can't be entered without solving a puzzle, so that one worked well for me. As for Spirit, you can't fast travel to get the boss fight because Mineru won't teleport with you, so you have to travel the long way.

Okay, so you can get to the fourth shrine without too much trouble using just ice and Ascend and you can clear it without using Recall at all. I'm half tempted to reload to before picking up Recall and see if the game lets you in the shrine in the first place lol.

Kind of. Storywise it doesn't make much of a difference since all you have to do to activate it is to activate the Lookout Landing tower and talk to Purah after, and she just basically repeats what you can glean from stable talk.

Oddly enough, it seems that you can complete the entire Regional Phenomena quest line itself without even getting the paraglider.

Also when I was scanning amiibos in hopes of scoring a ruby to use as a bomb earlier, I got two paraglider fabrics. I'm pretty sure one of them is one I never even got in my main file lol.

I've decided that I will fuck up all the puzzles I can. The shrine near the first chasm that wants you to squeeze platforms through gaps and use them as bridges? Nah, bomb flower shield jumps. Paraglider for a trip down to the depths? Who needs it? I'll pack myself up in a box and tumble on down.
