..abortion if it were left up to a popular vote by the states' residents? every single one that was put up to a vote has been defeated in every state even in very red states. Another thing, ohio is putting it on the ballot to enshrine abortion rights in the states' constitution. Do you think that this will pass?

No. We've seen that the majority of people generally are not anti choice. They may be pro life as a personal decision, but don't want to force it on others

Agreed - I can't think of any states off hand that showed popular sentiment in restricting.

I'm hopeful Ohio's statue passes but their Republicans have been relentless so *fingers crossed*

yeah i heard about that. Like very misleading wording on the proposal to enshrine abortion rights. Most of the people of ohio have shown they clearly don't want it. But many politicians still try to do it....

The problem with the Ohio measure is that Republicans got tricky and kept the same name/number on it from earlier in the summer.

  • In August, there was a vote on Issue 1, which was about raising the voting percentage from 50%+1 to 60% to change the state constitution. This was a measure that Democrats wanted to vote NO (and did)
  • In November, we are once again voting on Issue 1, but THIS time it's about enshrining a woman's right to an abortion into the state constitution. THIS time, Democrats want to vote YES

Republicans in state congress purposely kept the same name/number to cause confusion among voters

Whats the reddest state? Mississippi?

Whats the reddest state without a large black population? Wyoming or one of its neighbors?

If neither of those states have polling about abortion then I wouldnt be so sure.

I've seen a lot of political commentators asking this - no clear answer but one possibility is they feel the issue does more to energize their shrinking base than turn off moderates

fwiw theres also the possibility that some Republican voters will vote yes thinking theyre restricting abortion rights like last time. Democratic voters are more engaged on this issue and generally smarter overall so that may balance out

This might backfire on them. People voting GOP are generally dumber and less politically aware than people voting otherwise

Kansas Republicans tried to be slick and intentionally made wording of the options confusing. Thankfully they failed, but they still continue to find a way to disregard our votes.

The reason they are pushing this stuff through (despite what voters want) is that the GOP doesn't give a shit about voters. It only gives a shit about Christo-Fascism as outlined in Project 2025
