They have the largest Regional Pokedex in the series but the game has barely any trainers with more then 3 Pokemon. Hell the entire Elite 4 have only 4 Pokemon each.

I love most if not all of the Pokemon introduced that gen but I really don't care for the region, story, or characters of XY... It's one of the harder games for me to replay...

Much prefer ORAS as my Gen 6 game... But I love Gen 3 so I'm a bit biased...

I actually did finish Y version's story. I have yet to bother finishing a gen 7 game, and I haven't even tried a later gen game yet. Gen 6 was a masterpiece compared to some of the slop that was served up after it. Not like that really means much, but still.

I don't think I ever actually finished X, which is the only time I haven't completed at least one game in a gen (not counting remakes, because I did beat Alpha Sapphire).

To this day, the only pokemon games I've only completed once.

Well, them and BDSP, which are much worse, but for different reasons.

the selection is so good. it's basically literally anything you want.

I acknowledge that X and Y aren't very good games and are my least favorite main series entry. I got to the last gym years ago and have a very hard time willingly starting them in a new playthrough.

This is a meaningless criticism considering it's true of every game in the series.

Nobody ever gets as obnoxious as Tierno, as pointless as Trevor, or as bland as calem/Serena.

Though Hau in Gen 7 takes the cake in the "annoying" department, Hop in gen 8 is basically Walmart Brand Hau, and Trace in Let's Go gets an honorable mention for being literally Blue, but exponentially worse by every metric.

It took until Nemona in gen 9 to finally get back on track with rivals.

I had a ton of fun with Y but I think it was mostly because my wife (then girlfriend) had X so we were playing through together when hanging out. I also got really into breeding Pokemon and ended up with like 50ish perfect bred pokemon, and EV trained maybe half of them.

If we weren't playing together I probably would have gotten bored of it because I tried to do a playthrough of x a couple of years later (using those Nintendo points you used to be able to redeem for stuff. I had enough for a game right before they shut it down so I got x). I think I made it like 3 hours in and never touched it again.

Gen 6 gets too much hate, the roster is a banger! Gen 7 was so bad I couldnt even get halfway through it.

Playing through Violet now and while the gameplay is fun it feels like their approach to the roster was 400 slots what should we Chuck in there: hmmm every starter bird, every starter bug ok thats like 25% done. Hmmm how about some of the worst Pokmon for the next 100. How about every Pokmon literally associated with s***. Couple of dragons and done! Should we make them all hve unique ways to appear? Nah Chuck all of them on the ground and the rest in the water. And maybe one in a tree

at least in Gen 6 you had so many options for teams and each way to find Pokmon had different or even unique lists of Pokmon to find.

And why are other people not allowed to dislike different pokemon games without you throwing a hissyfit?

if you want a real narrative high point, consider the following

X and Y start off really well. The journey to the second Gym is slow (in a good way) and takes you through a variety of settings.

After that, the pace changes violently, and there's a mad rush to the end, with various things being hinted at that are dropped or not developed.

Oh, and the hub city is really poorly designed. Nightmare to navigate.

Regional dex only matters to me on second playthroughs. Which is even less relevant since you can transfer pokemon in by then. And the actual 6th generation of pokemon was the smallest.

There is one thing really great about X and Y though. Route 7. It's got the daycare, the berry fields, and the Battle Maison. You can garden, breed pokemon, battle for money and rank, level up your O powers, all without leaving the area. I had played Alpha Sapphire first, so I would trade and breed pokemon in both games. When I got to that area, I literally spend months there without progressing the game. I'd play my game for about 20 minutes two or three times a day. My team was going to get overleveled from the Maison so I took them out of my party and just used my starter and stuff I was training for competitive in AS. I literally had a level 90 Delphox before I challenged the 3rd gym, it was such a great spot.

It's a shame that's the last game you could properly grow berries.

scarlet and violet were the nest pokemon games since xy, and then you have to go back to gen3 after that

SuMo are way better than XY. Or SwSh. The only problem is Hau and the early railroading. Not nearly as awful as the flaws in the other games I just compared it to though

X wasn't terrible but it definitely leaved a lot to be desired. I remember the Paris city being super confusing to navigate. It's kind of a shame that Pokemon Z got cancelled. It did exist from the gigaleak years ago, and there's tons of content that hints to it or got pushed into Sun/Moon like the Zygarde forms, Z moves, the locked power plant door, the megas from ORAS, AZ's floette event that got canned, Pokemon XYZ anime, etc. I felt like if Z made it to fruition, it could've saved that gen.

Yeah, Nemona was a lot of fun. But every rival from Gen 6-8 was garbage

I remember Shauna from her wacky haircut and Tierno for being a fat FUCK, but I literally didn't remember Trevor until someone mentioned him lol

The roller skates was a fun mechanic. I kinda wish that made a return >_>

I thought XY were ok. Not as good as BW that proceeded it, but definitely better than S/M and SwSh. Those were so hard to finish.

I had fun for the most part, love most of the new pokemon, locations and didn't mind the characters since I never saw them as rivals.

The character customization was also amazing. I'm disappointed they gutted it completely in the sequel.

I'll be honest, she's the only one of the four I like. Not a great rival, but has a few nice moments with the protagonist, has the closest thing to a story arc in the game, even has some romantic subtext. Not exactly poetry, but Shakespeare by gen 6+ pokemon standards.

Plus, she gives you one of the unpacked starters after the E4. So yeah, she barely gets a pass.

Because there's happy, and then there's obnoxiously happy.

He had no story arc, no sense of competition, and interrupted you every 30 steps to talk about how much he just wanted to eat more malasada. Every time you battle he basically just laughs and thanks you for beating him up.

If they're gonna give us a rival, it'd be nice to feel a bit of rivalry, you know? Silver constantly raving about being better than you after getting his teeth kicked in for the 5th time may be cringey as hell, but at least he's trying.

Cold take: ORAS was the only decent 3DS Pokemon game

XY were the last games I enjoyed, and I really did enjoy them. They just felt incomplete and had a shit story.

Almost all the new Pokemon were great, though.

100% agreed. X/Y aren't bad games, they're just full of missed potential that would have most likely been fully realized if Z hadn't been canned. Even in their current state, I still think they're decent mid-tier Pokemon games. I enjoyed them more than Sun/Moon and Sword/Shield, and they're put together better than the glitchy-ass original GB games that are held together with nothing more than chewing gum and Satoru Iwata's spirit (may he rest in peace).

A lot of people clown on Sun/Moon but I'd replay them any day of the week over X/Y and I never finished Y. I got to either to victory road or the 8th gym and just couldn't bring myself to finish the game. Bean Sun no problem and kinda enjoyed it, but X/Y just feels so off to me.

I enjoyed it. It's Pokemon.
