You're basically a doctor with the same level of qualification more or less, and you make a 6 figure salary ranging into the $160k range in some cases...and your job is you work in a shop handing old people cream.

You work retail. Retail service next to other people doing retail who are making like $25k a year.

No disrespect to pharmacists though. I can't figure out if this is a dream job or a nightmare job.

She's said she'd have probably burned out working at like CVS

Retail pharmacy has been going downhill for years. Most of the major companies treat their staff as subhuman.

I've got a friend who is a pharmacist at Walgreens, and he seems to hate everything about his job.

Back when Walmart had those Express convenience stores, the one in my city would sometimes have the pharmacist as the only person on staff and he'd be responsible for pharmacy duties but also checking out random groceries lol.

One of my friends from high school went to college to be a pharmacist. He hated the job and quit pretty quickly.

The one at my local Boots used to wear a bodycam. But he claims people shout at him.

Id never recommend anyone pursue pharmacy at this point. The money isnt worth the stress and treatment most have to put up with.

She made a wise decision just like I did. Im just a tech though

Yep. Major companies cut staff to the point where the pharmacy is barely functional. I think Walmart still has decent staffing but places like Walgreens and CVS? Slave shop. Retail fucking sucks outside of maybe independents. Ill never go back unless I have no choice

Probably the most underappreciated and underpaid job in the healthcare business.

We expect techs to do so much... be licensed, undergo training, learn state/fed laws&reg, system to communicate with other pharmacy / hospitals, assist with vaccination (or actually give the shots in some states), run real time background checks for meth precursors, learn the store's computer system for entering/retrieving patient rx / information, transferring rx, navigating and dealing with insurance (and good techs get insurance to pay up)... and also count pills.

And what do we pay them?
Same (or less) than McDonalds down the street.
No offense to fast food workers, but come on.

I also wish the public knew a little bit more about what goes on in a retail pharmacy.

I wouldn't call it a weird job. Someone has to dispense medication.
