I cant wear any watch with a metal strap / buckle, as Im allergic to nickel or something and it breaks out my wrist. So if I wear one I need to have a Velcro strap like a child and it looks stupid anyway. So I just dont wear watches.

I have a nickel allergy, but I just wear a stainless steel belt buckle and that solves it.
It took me years to figure out what was causing the rash.

So you mean a stainless steel buckle on your belt, or a stainless steel buckle on the watch itself? I dont see how the former would solve anything, but I wear undershirts for the same reason, as belt buckles break me out too. So the undershirt just keeps it from making skin contact and Im fine.

I love smart watches, something actually useful unlike a regular watch most of them over priced bullshit.

Yeah but most people wear the nice watches with metal linked straps.

Nothing against smart watches but I personally like automatics. We know you can look at your phone for the time so its not about function as much as form for me and I like the look more.

probably an unpopular opinion, but I prefer leather straps to the metal linked straps.

the issue is that no matter how good there strap is it will wear poorly within a year or two

Yeah, it's true. I've had to have mine replaced. IMO worth the effort for the look though.

I reckon the mark up on smartwatches is at least as high, if not higher than regular watches.

I have a few watches with nato straps and those are probably my favorite. They come in basically any color you want and are relatively cheap which is good because they wear within like 2 years.

Not good for formal looks though. I do have one or two leather straps for that.
