i'm having fun with it. has that bethesda jank, but overall it's a good time.

How's the space combat?
Trailer gave it sense of it being slow and cumbersome (like real life ships of larger size).

Ive only done a few fights but its pretty slow. My last couple of fights the enemy ships have been flying past me so I have to slowly turn to face them, at which point they turned around and passed me again. I havnt messed with any settings to see if I can turn faster.

Don't max out your throttle. There's a sweet spot indicated by some lines next to the throttle, at about 60% thrust, where you get full maneuverability while still moving at a decent clip. You can still Boost to pursue or evade as needed. If you feel like a blimp trying to joust an airplane that is the likely culprit.

The space combat is heavily stats based, in that your damage numbers need to be able to punch through the shields of the enemy ship. Mount a trio of oversized laser cannons on your ship and you'll be able to punch through common enemies in 2-3 hits. With the starter ship though, it struggles against hull since its default ballistic weapon is weak.

Yea jousting is what it feels like. You remember the throttle from the tutorial, Ill give it a shot thanks.

Did you watch the video? Based on that comment Im guessing not.

He makes a fair point when he talks about going Xbox exclusive and being on gamepass isnt financially viable long term. The game cost 200 million to make ffs.

The only way it makes sense is if its a loss leader to get people to buy an Xbox and it isnt a console seller imo.

I would consider getting an a box of the game was great. And it is good. Its just not good enough.

Common complaints are that it takes a while to get going (but it's worth it once it does) and the lack of a map.

There's definitely a bit of inborn hostility from folks who have not played yet but have a gripe w Bethesda over their previous projects.

I think many folks went in with the expectation that this would be a buggy horrifying mess of a game, but critical reception is pretty damn positive and shows that it's actually pretty well put together.

This and it's really weird cuz it seems these people are upset and disappointed that's its not a buggy mess. They were hoping so bad to be able to bash it for the bugs and glitches.
It's weird

I wasn't excited for it, but one of my friends was. He talked about it for months leading up to release. I talked to him yesterday and he told me he refunded it after an hour and a half.

That's brutal.

But, at least it's a large and explorable tile (with variety), right?
I'm sort of imagining you get to ride around in some sort of land vehicle (or maybe a plane / vertibird) to explore each "planet tile" to give it "exploration" immersion.

I never understood this statement. Bethesda games still sold millions upon millions of units on consoles where modding wasnt possible, and even when it is its much more limited compared to PC.

The $100 early access price and bad word of mouth seem to be limiting early access sales. I recall Hogwarts Legacy early access having more people and that was during the weekday.

Not a fair comparison, considering that HL was based on an established IP with an immense popularity.

Starfield also has higher system requirements and can be played on Game Pass for cheaper.
