My opinion is probably useless because I still find Harold and Kumar go to White Castle funny, and as far as I can tell its pretty much the same kind of humour

My friends actually showed it to me back in high school (early 2000s) and I didnt much care for it back then either lol.

Thats not to say I dont care for 2000s comedies as a whole though. Still enjoy movies like Mean Girls and Napoleon Dynamite

Honestly, the cow scene was always the worst part of the film. Even when it was brand new, that was always the bit where my eyes would glaze over. I don't know if I'd go so far as to say the movie has aged badly but it is the kind of film where you need to be in the right mood for it, be the kind of person to appreciate what the film is doing comedy-wise (if your friends aren't feeling it, it could certainly seem embarrassing otherwise) and it helps a lot if you've not seen it a couple times already.

I still regularly quote it to this day but each time I've rewatched, the less I've actively enjoyed it so I know where you're coming from.

But yeah, I can imagine if I were to watch it today I wouldn't find it nearly as funny. Nostalgic at best. Happens all the time with comedy we grew up with.

It wasn't even that great.

It was some entertaining juvenile jokes, but once you grew up it wasn't funny.
Welll, i guess those who young at heart can still found it funny.

I actually remember the first time I saw it.

It was 2006 and I was visiting my girlfriend at the time in the hospital. It was late, she was getting rest, and I was the only one left in the waiting room. They had movies available for visitors to watch, including Kung Pow.

Perhaps I was in the wrong frame of mind, but it didn't take, even then.

Well one is a spoof on a genre.

The other is a teen comedy about a young person's perspective of the societal pressure of having sex.

I implore you to recinsider.

I haven't watched Not Another Teen Movie in forever, but I remember absolutely rolling at some of the jokes from it >_> I hope it still holds up lol

It has aged appropriately. Trust me, the parts of the movie with cringey humor and dated references / CGI were just as cringey and dated in the early 2000's.

That's why most cult classics achieve (and rarely grown beyond) that status; they're roughly 60% fun and / or innovative gold, and 40% crap. Speed Racer immediately springs to mind as fitting this bill. The good outweighs the bad just enough that fans can look past the latter.

As for Kung Pow, the vast majority of the dubbed-over scenes still hold up; the 'original' material (as in new scenes they shot to fill in the gaps, such as the cow, or any scene where Master Pain / Betty clearly has a different actor) is mostly bad.

I re-watched it a few years ago and it is still hilarious besides the terrible CGI Matrix spoof scene with the cow.

I liked American Pie and Harold and Kumar, though I havent seen them in ages.

Kung Pow was always atrocious, the first time I tried to watch it was while drinking with friends and I was still like we are not watching this, and they agreed.

Kung Fu Hustle (dubbed) was the far superior drunk with friends movie.

I wouldn't be surprised if people start calling it a p r o b l e m a t i c movie because it's basically a white guy imitating various chinese accents, but my take on it was that it was a love letter to the old school kung fu genre of cinema. I just thought a lot of the jokes fell flat.

It's aged poorly because it was internet humor before internet humor grew and changed. It was essentially peak 2008 newgrounds/youtube poop, but then we, as a culture, got bored of that.

They should ruin the last joke and make a sequel.
